Cooper seemed quite a bit stronger, ran through arm tackles quite often. Even Tim Dwight didn't do that as frequently as Cooper did. Wetjen does seem to hit the long returns more consistently though but they also haven't kicked away from him like they did those other two so he's had more chances (or it feels like he has). I'm fine if teams want to keep doing that since it's almost always going to be a good return if there isn't a penalty.
Coop seemed more in control and strategic when he was running in space, while Wetjen looks a little more reckless. I'd probably choose Coop, but I couldn't imagine having both on the field at the same time fielding kick returns.
Wej is a great returner, but tim and coop made big plays in big moments. He is missing that in his game. He was a liability in the isu game. Hopefully he can house one this year against Indiana, Penn state, or Oregon.
Wetjen made more mistakes against ISU than Coop did in his entire career at Iowa.

The only player I'm putting in front of Coop is Tim Dwight. Iowa will never see a returner as electric as TD again.
I think some people misunderstood the question. It has nothing to do with anything other than punt returns. Coop was/is awesome, but as of today, Wetjen has 3 returns for TD's vs 1 for Coop and his average per return is 15 vs 13 for Coop. I'm not declaring that Wetjen is the better of the 2, but anyone suggesting that it's not debatable aren't looking at things through an empirical lens.
I'd say it's a tie in regards to being able to put 6 on the board. Cooper it seems took less chances that might hurt the team. Wetjen will take chances that he shouldn't. So far, he makes the best of it. I'm afraid it will cost us against a good team. Hopefully he won't field a punt over his shoulder, at the 2 yard line, anymore this year.
Perhaps its the way the team is blocking and coached more than each individual player. When you have 3 in a row as all BT, it makes me think it's more the scheme than the players. That being said, all of those guys were great as well.

Well, the return teams are obviously well coached. That's pretty much a given, but it takes a certain skillset and a lack of fear or caution to excel at it. It's not a coincidence that both Wetjen and Coop are/were 2 of the fastest players on the team and catch punts that a lot of others might fair catch. With that said the blocking on a lot of those returns is also phenomenal.
Why choose. They are different. Coops first step. Wet after the first steps is really on high speed cruise.
