Most wins and losses…..put an asterisk next to it.
Not to be a moral_victory guy, but between 2021-2024 we were losing ranked games by an average of 25

Even if the pregame Iowa win probability was only 15% for each of these 11 games hypothetically, then the probability of winning at least _1 of the 11 is just over 83%. So we are defeating those pregame odds by losing 11 straight. We are winning at losing is what I am saying.

I'm sure plenty of tenured hall of fame coaches have losing streaks of this length against teams with a pulse just like this. Penn State, Oregon, and USC coming up babayyy.

Kirk let the offense slide which is why the losses to the big boys. Kirk has an above avg qb who was 14-17 at one time today, maybe at halftime, and this is a game we could have beat the #9 team. You know how bad the passing game has been but it is at least functional now.
The defense had Mendoza off his spot both physically and mentally during a lot of the game. Cignetti probably made a good decision to run the ball more from the get go as Kinnick can wreck QBs.
I just hate to see teams get the very short field TDs in these close losses
That above-average QB was 5-8 for 42 yards in his three 2nd Half possessions. 4 first downs 68 total yards. 3 points in those possessions.
The passing game isn't Bacon Hill broken but it sure as hell isn't good enough. That will continue because there are no P4 caliber receivers on the roster and won't be as long as KF is the Moon Family Head Coach.
You're mostly right, but take Dayton Howard, who made the catch of the year vs. Rutgers. I was there yesterday, sec. 128, row 24--35-yard line on the press box side--and I didn't see Howard targeted ONCE. How the hell can you be an elite receiver if they never throw the ball down the field to you?
I think there were one or two passes that were thrown more than 10 yards down field in the entire 60 minutes, and one was when Brown overthrew the open TE down the seam at the end of the game, another play Iowa has used about twice in five games.
Saying Kirk let the “offense slide” is an understatement. He allowed the offense to go into oblivion in the hope of advancing Tommy Boy’s career. Most fans, myself included, had a serious issue with that.
I believe Tim Lester has brought some respectability back to the offense, but it is still not good by P4 standards. The one saving grace is the OL and Mark Gronowski being serviceable. The biggest glaring weakness is still not having any real playmakers at wide receiver. Jacob Gill is a good possession receiver but he is limited. Sam Phillips is also decent but not a clear #1. So, you get what you get—a below average offense against any defense with a pulse.
I am proud of the effort I saw on the field yesterday, regardless. Truthfully, I am kinda perplexed by how much criticism the defense got yesterday, especially toward DeShaun Lee and TJ Hall. They did a phenomenal job limiting Indiana’s passing game. Were they perfect? No. But the biggest problem yesterday with the defense was the poor tackling and getting gashed at the LOS. Still, given the fact the Iowa offense basically gifted IU an early touchdown, for the defense to only give up what they did yesterday is truly remarkable.
Agree great effort. They performed better than I thought they would.
But….as is becoming more and more common…the inability to make a play on offense when needed, and a defensive breakdown at the worst possible moment.
