I get what each is saying. You are correct- this game was loaded with reasons we lost.- BTW, why in any world did Greg continue to kick to their returner? His solution after the first mistake which was 4 yds deep, was to have our kicker kick it 6 yards deep instead?"Despite other mitigating factors – such as that the speedy Wilson may have been safe at first even if Buckner had fielded the ball[2], or that Boston's pitching had already squandered a three-run lead and that Buckner making the play would have merely prolonged the game and not clinched victory for Boston – the play is often known as the "Buckner play" and the loss blamed on the play's eponymous figure."
After the first Iowa TD, I said to my better half- let's beat the traffic. Should have went with my instincts!!!
we did not tackle and I have never seen a game with so many receivers open without a defender in sight. The penalty that killed our first FG. Though, we still should have made it. The blocked FG- and how Iowa was allowed to just leapfrog our entire OL including the center?
Ferenz also schooled Greg on halftime adjustments.
but, all of that did happen but we still win it if we didn’t get called for holding. And that was not of the ref, the ref made the correct call. But that single play could have been the win, even with everything else we did wrong.
I also think we just don’t coach smart on offense. Our big WR’s were dominating in the first half. And not just because of size but they were winning the battle of the football and were catching everything. AK was also dead on.
Coaches need to see that at half and ask themselves what the HOF coach on the other side is going to do- that was going to be pressure. Raymond did a great job chipping, but why are we the only team in the universe that doesn’t have plays drawn up to counter pressure. We see our team get gashed every week by RB’s that do their chip and then open for the perfect screen up the middle. I already know if we do the same play, it is going to be to the outside and to the left or our RB just stays on his block.
drives me crazy.
mans again- why was any f-ing kick near their returner???
