Can some football coach here explain to me why coaches run plays that are short of the sticks? It would be like me coaching basketball, down 3 with 5 seconds left, having the kids shoot layups in that situation, year after year after year. It’s incredible.

I understand the frustration of the passes short of the sticks, but the defense understands where the 1st down maker is too. Sometimes gotta take what they give you and make a guy miss after the catch.
