It's just a damned shame KF wasted all those fantastic Iowa defenses with Greg Davis and then his own son as incompetent OCs.

Those Ds would not have been as good with better OCs. We're seeing what happens to a great D when the O improves right now.

Congrats on this post. It has aged pretty well. Howard made what may have been the best and most crucial catch by an Iowa WR in the last five or six years. Now THAT's football. It's just a damned shame KF wasted all those fantastic Iowa defenses with Greg Davis and then his own son as incompetent OCs. That is what I'll remember most about the KF era . . . what might have been with simply average offenses.

But Howard is the guy. And if VanderZee can get back pretty soon, MG could have a lot of fun tossing the ball to those two. I'd be thrilled to see it.

It looks like Howard has decent speed to go along with his size. Surprisingly, Iowa was his only offer coming out of high school.

Chuck Long's only other offer coming out of high school was from Northern Illinois. He joined Hayden Fry and became one of the top four or five QBs in Iowa history, a consensus All-American, and just missed winning the Heisman Trophy. We all should know by now that recruiting is an art, not a science, and many players, in all sports, slip through the cracks. Ever hear of Bennett Stirtz?

Maybe Dayton Howard is a one-catch wonder, but I think he's at the beginning of an outstanding career.
