OSU McGruff is on thin ice because of DUI- There is a YouTube video of the arrest from the police CAM

Not a good look for the program -

Just 1 high school commit since Jan took over. Hopefully that changes soon.

Good story from Hawk Central:

Jan has one high school commit but three transfer players. Olsen, Chit-chat and Rodriguez. Three solid players. I think she has a real opportunity for a solid 2026 class.

Edit: Have to mention keeping Deal and Houston committed requires work also. Jan is a very good recruiter and solid coach, who will only get better.

For what it's worth, McKenna's dad (Aaron) retweeted this Hawk Central story from yesterday, Friday, September 12.

Conversely, he has not mentioned (or retweeted) anything recently related to the other schools.

Is he telling us that patience will indeed be rewarded & that good news is coming?

I agree, the Jan needs to prove herself as a recruiter story is overblown. Not only did she keep Bluder commitments on board, including Lucy Olsen, but she also kept the entire returning roster in Iowa City before her first season. Hayes is her first high school commitment as head coach, but she also brought in two transfers that were in great demand, and got Kylie to come back for her COVID season.

I also think she's done a great job remaking the staff and establishing Iowa as a program that will recruit nationally.

We'll see how the 2026 class turns out. I thank dominoes will start falling soon.

Attaining and retaining high quality assistants is much more important than many understand. The relationship between the assistants and the players is really important to players. They spend most of their time with the assistants. The hires for Jan appear really solid so far. Hopefully they can help recruit at a really high level. Time will tell.

This is going to take another week or so.
Chad Leistikow has a tweet coming about how it's an "agonizing decision " and the family is divided.
That's not a great sign. They need to look at Spencer Lee's recruitment. the easy choice for him was to go to Penn State but the right choice for him was to go to Iowa. That was his quote.

Well yes there is. Staley signs Multiple players in the top 15 pretty much every year. Hell they're in the final 4 every year. USC signed the number ONE class last year, AND Juju (sitting out this season) will be probably be back full steam (and wanting to reclaim her spot as the nations top player). It would seem pretty obvious that she'd have a bigger impact out of the gate at Iowa. There really is no argument to be made otherwise. Not to mention McGruff may be on thin ice at OSU, and Staley's been flirting with the NBA. Its possible neither are even there in the next 4 years. I'm actually a bit concerned that this doesn't seem apparent to her and her family.
This is the exact reason why I went from 90% confident to 30% or less.

“Thats not a great sign”
So if Spencer Lee’s “easy choice” was to go to Penn State and he didn’t. Then how does that correlate to McKenna? If she ends up going to SC - that’s exactly opposite to what Spencer did …….

Aaron also RT two posts about Ethan Harris commit, as a member of the Hawkeyes family would.

Dad is getting impatient too! He doesn't want McKenna to make the wrong choice ;)

I guess McKenna's dad posted the Ethan Harris commit on his Instagram story if that means anything

Also, Skim gave Iowa an 80/20 shot at landing McKenna over USC. Hopefully Skim is right but it still feels more 50/50 to me
He works for the WCC and Harris is a player in that area. So he may know him or of him…
Or McKenna is coming to Iowa to.

Skim had predicted 90-95% Iowa shortly after the OV.

On3 recruiting prediction machine: 94% Iowa. Updated last week.

These are two very optimistic predictions. If McKenna doesn't commit to Iowa, it will be a huge mistake for these two insiders. I believe they're right. McKenna will be a Hawkeye.

Ok this gets me back to 83 percent Iowa.

Her heart may be in SoCal
It would be a little strange because in her top 4, USC is the only one that didn't have an OV. And she and her parents try to keep things balanced on social media sharing posts about South Carolina and Iowa, but completely ignoring USC.

Maybe I should clarify by USC, I meant University of South Carolina. I think it's pretty much between Iowa and South Carolina

Dawn is a great coach, but not all 5-star girls have the patience to come off the bench for one season or two. I hope McKenna is that kind of girl too, and she chooses Iowa for be starter since d1.
