Seems too early to be starting this, but relieving coaches during the season is becoming more normal. smh

Please use this thread to report on, and discuss, any and all college football coaching changes during the '25 season, or during the '25-'26 offseason.

UCLA spent way too much money to be this bad. I do like Foster though--I think he'll eventually get another shot

I was sort of on the Foster bandwagon. He seemed to have the Bruins on a decent trajectory late last season. He was never a coordinator and was willing to take on the HC role after Chip Kelly bailed outside the normal hiring window. It's hard to overcome getting dismantled by New Mexico though.

Can't say I'm shocked by the Pry news given how things have been going lately at VT. I won't feel too bad for him though. That's life as a big-time college coach. Plus, he'll feel better when he looks at his bank account.

I agree with you on both. I think Foster would still be employed if they didn't bring in Nico

And so, it begins.

I wonder if VT would come after any PSU assistants with VA ties? My guess is that they would want someone with at least coordinator experience, if not prior HC experience.

On another note, I wonder if Thomas Wilder, the 4 star VT offensive tackle commit, will reopen his recruitment. We were at one time pretty involved with him.

Expectations around the country need to be reset for these kinds of schools. I’d keep Pry but cut his salary by 60%. That is their reality.
If they were Big Ten or SEC program and he went 16-24 I could go along with your argument.
In the ACC, you fire him

Ricky Rahne? Didn’t he just clean their clocks with a roster of perceived lesser talent?

I thought of him too. However, his record is 21-31 overall and 0nly 16-16 in the Sunbelt Conference. Moreover, he was at PSU with Pry. My guess is that VT will take a hard pass on Rahne. Too bad Charles Huff moved from Marshall to Southern Miss after last season.

If anyone at Va Tech has a brain they've already offered the job to Patty Fitz
I wouldn't be shocked if they hire Michael Vick

I doubt it. They just had one and they just fired him.

What’s happened there since Beamer retired just tells you what a great program builder he was, because history shows that it’s tough to win consistently there. I have a feeling that that program may be headed to relative obscurity for a long time.

Fitz is not a bad idea.
How about UCLA?
I have no clue about UCLA--they're kind of like Texas Tech where they decided they're going to spend money and now need to win. That's a job I wouldn't want. Especially in the Big Ten. Baylor's Dave Aranda and Boise's Spencer Danielson are from California and would make sense to me. Though I wouldn't go near Danielson. Mora had success there--maybe they save him from UConn? I just don't see that as a great job.
Fitz, to me, is like Beamer--it's a safe fit.

Agreed--which is why I'd hire someone safe like Fitz. Yes, you'll have bad years but he'll put together the occasional ACC title run.

I agree I think Fitz at Va Tech is an excellent idea.

Fitz isn't that attractive IMO; he was like 4-30 his last three years and he's a midwest guy. My guess is they may be reluctant to hire someone without HC experience, but a guy I think you take a chance on is D'Anton Lynn - would defiinitely bring some buzz and he's been at UCLA and knows the scene. I could see Fitz maybe making a run at the VT job, but again there, I'd look to someone like Charlie Huff, who is a VA guy and has had success as a HC more recently. Going to be a fun carosel this fall....

Va Tech isn't looking to be Penn State but it's much easier to win there than at Northwestern. Fitz had interest from the Bears and many other programs, allegedly ND, for a reason.

I think Lynn is a great suggestion. Up & comer for sure. Fitz just screams Va Tech to me.

LOL, Hey ND took that creepy Ash so Fitz would be more than ok there.
If Fitz really wants to get back into coaching I think he does need to travel the DC route. As others posters have pointed out his last 3-4 years at NW were not good.

And many coaches have done just as bad if not worse and gotten other jobs. A few years doesn't erase the unprecedented success he had

What is the Gundy story? I thought they had Pickens money to blow like Oregon who has Knight money to spend.
