Sloppy game for both teams - still a good road win and covered the spread for Rice. Next one is big - at home vs Loyola
I think the game would've been closer if Rita's starting QB Armbruster and top WR Walter Jones played in this game--they both did not dress up.

Her best O-lineman got hurt early in this game, which doesn't help either. Regardless, BR dominated the lines of scrimmages and the game.

What I am concerned with is Rita's defense. They are giving up 28 points per game. Not sure what is going on there. Yes, playing MC/BR has something to do with that, but it just doesn't seem like they are there, yet.

Real concerned about the run defense. They are giving up too many rushing yards .

BR DL was the factor for most of SRs troubles. They couldn’t get anything going more than two plays in a row.

Thought Mustangs came out with passion to start but Rice slowly chipped away at that as the game went on.

Rita definitely not there yet. I could be mistaken, but aren’t they a Junior heavy team?

Any idea when Armbruster and Jones return? They still have a good shot at 5-6 wins and a team that no one wants to face in the 1st round.

Should worry about getting out of the first round yourselves.

BR’s massive defensive front was a big problem for SR as was MC’s last week. BR has a lot of talent on their team and with a couple of transfers they got they will tough draw in the playoffs. I think if they stay healthy they should be hoisting a trophy Thanksgiving weekend. They are one of the three schools in 7&8A that have a possibility of beating MC. The others are LA and LWE.

Having your three year starting QB out along with the best WR hurt. If they played they could have made it closer game. SR shot themselves in the foot with three encroachment calls at critical times in the game too. While SR is a good team they have three top 10 teams on the schedule. Before the season I thought 6-3 was in the cards or 7-2. SR needs to get and stay healthy for any kind of playoff run.

I usually don’t talk about coaching but I thought SR should have accepted the penalty on the punt BR downed the SR 4 yard line. A quick 3 and out and short punt gave BR a very short field for a score. And I thought BR’s time management and use of time outs left a little to be desired. Little things that need to be cleaned up by November.

7-2 is still a possibility if those two do come back by the time of the Naz game. That’s a big blow to the offense.

Looking at the schedule, they should beat everyone else left.

You’re spot on about Rice too. They have a great team on paper. But really have to fine tune things if they want a shot at state. How close they play MC and LA, whether they can beat them or not, will determine a lot.

C-Pride,

Agreed. Rice's D-line was dominant. Score was 7 - 3 and untypical for a Rita punter to punt a 10-yarder, but that gave BR great field position and boom! It's 14 - 3. Then halftime.

Playing huge Marist and MC back-to-back weeks obviously had its toll on Rita with these key injuries. With playing in the Green and having MC during Week Two, I think Rita should play a weaker opponent for Week One. Just the way I feel. Rita does have significant Juniors and a few sophomores.

I could be wrong and someone closer to the situation can correct me, but I think they both could be ready next week. Both injuries were not season-ending.

If Rita beats SF next week, then 6- 3 for me. At this point, I see Rita as underdogs playing in La Grange Park. when they face Naz.

As for Brother Rice first round playoff chances? Brother Rice will beat that first-round opponent 48 - 14.

First off, you’ll find no bigger critic of Rice and it’s coaching staff than me.

Second, learn how to read. Saying a 6-3 or 5-4 Rita is a very tough draw isn’t tearing them or their tradition down.
You certainly have been. It's on record. If Rita gets healthy and fixes up their defense and special teams, she can go on a run and make it interesting. DGN-Batavia-SCN-Normal are teams that I feel Rita can be on par with (providing she improves and gets healthy).

We'll see how the rest of the season goes, but it's how I feel right now. Rita vs Rice in 7A playoffs? Rice would be the prohibitive favorite.

It made the score 14 - 3 at the half. A 7 - 3 game would've been better for Cascia's confidence going into the second half.

Defense concerns me. Need to get the running game going as well.
