I was watching the Friday night games. Indiana seems to be rolling. Could Iowa beat New Mexico?
I hope the Hawkeye offense can show some signs of life tonight. If not, it could get ugly this season.

This evening will show nothing. U Mass is very bad and their team is decimated with injuries. A terrible offense would put up 600 yards against this UMass team.

Iowa needs to throw the ball 30 times. We know they can run the ball. This is the last chance to work on the passing game (which has already cost the Hawks one game this season) before the Big 10 season starts.

Both Mark and Hank need to be throwing. To do otherwise would be coaching malfeasance. The Hawks simply MUST have some semblance of a passing game to have any chance at 8+ wins.

Unfortunately The Capt goes into turtle 🐢 mode whenever he has a 6 point lead (or less) regardless of the opponent. If he knows he can Win running the ball, he will never even entertain the mere thought of throwing the pigskin around. I am guessing we will have 3 RBs go close to or over 100 yards a piece. The silver lining in playing a patsy like Umass is that our starters will have an early day and injuries should be minimal (if any at all). 😎

Does UMass ever cross the 50 without the help of a turnover ?

This has makings of one of the most boring games ever.
Iowa may come out and work on the passing game and it still won’t look pretty. Eventually they just run 40 straight times and hope for no injuries

Watched the entire first Q of the Indiana game….and that’s what you’d want Iowa to look like. If they are healthy, they will give Iowa defense fits with their dink and dunk passing game.

Think I saw some people penciling Indiana in as a win. In just their last 2 games, they have outscored their opponents by a total of 120 points. Crappy opposition, I know. Wish we got UCLA at home after last season.

Showing signs of life tonight may not mean a whole lot.

There’s too many examples of when there’s a lot of talk / heat on Kirk or a specific part of the team….coughOffensecough….we’ll see an inspired performance….offense magically opens up. Big plays. High score

Only to see the return to conservative the following week and rest of the season

And then when Iowa NEEDS to throw (like last week), they can’t. It’s maddening.

Kirk has zero interest in Brown throwing the ball. They wouldn't let him vs Albany and they won't let him here. He's ride or die with Gronowski and has no interest in starting a QB controversy.

Most of that has to do with the relative strength of the opponent's defense. It's also very obvious that they have zero confidence in the intermediate to long passing game today. It must be a total Sh#t show in practice because they have barely attempted any so far through 2 games. Against a defense like UMass is where you'll likely see a few more attempts. If not, then they've completely given up on it altogether.

And how do you get better at something? By DOING it!
