Aoyagi vs Akmataliev on mat A. Great matchup

Aoyagi with a beautiful shot into a lace and that’s it! Impressive. Akmataliev is a past world silver and bronze

Wow! What a beautiful attack from PJ right away

2-0 and then he gets another Td on a go behind!! 4-0

4-0 at the break. Perfect period

Duke gives up a Td. Kaipanov went double to seatbelt and scored on the edge

Kaipanov with a double and a gut to go up 6-4

Duke needs to get his offense going

Stepout for Kaipanov. 7-4

TD Duke!! 7-6

Kaipanov killing Duke from an underhook

Td Kaipanov and a stepout Duke. 9-7 now

:40 sec left. Duke needs to clear underhooks and work his go behinds

Damn. PJ went for a head pinch with time running down and gave up 2. 11-7

Great showing from Duke. 11-7 against the defending world champ

2024 Senior Worlds champ Nurkozha Kaipanov of Kazakhstan erases a 4-0 PJ Duke first period lead to beat the Penn State freshman 11-7. He will remain alive for repechage based on how far Kaipanov goes.

Damn! Great stuff there. Have a feeling Gomez is gonna make us sweat.
Agreed. Gomez can absolutely beat Kaipanov. Hopefully he doesn’t because PJ needs to get pulled into repechage but that’s going to be a good match

Darn PJ!!! spent too much time in kaiponov’s seatbelt
Yeah that underhook to seatbelt was the difference. PJ usually works from that position but Kaipanov controlled those positions. PJ gets a go behind on 95% of guys in that last sequence but Kaipanov held strong

Jax up 1-0 on the shot clock point. 1-0 at the break

Jax with a nice counter Td to go up 3-0!

Jax with another counter td. 5-0! His feel is unbelievable

2 point exposure for Suda cuts it to 5-2

Jax wins 7-2!!! What a massive win. Suda was picked to win this tournament by Flo and many others. Jax is so good. His feel and scrambling ability is next level

That was impressive.

Jax popped his hip up to avoid a takedown… and they didn’t give Suda even 1

Hmmm… looks like they might be trying to finish up all the 1/8 matches before starting quarters.

Would certainly make sense. I was a bit surprised they were seemingly rushing the quarters onto the mat. But, this would make more sense.

QFs are underway with the four 70 KG matches. Will hold until all finish then move to the next weight class.

Nurkozha Kaipanov of Kazakhstan, who knocked out Penn State freshman PJ Duke in Round 2, beat Mexico's Austin Gomez 10-8 in the 70-kilogram quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. If he wins that match, he will go for gold tomorrow, which would pull Duke into the repechage tournament on Sunday, where he'd have the chance to wrestle for bronze.

The semifinals start at 1 p.m. ET today. Our next update will come around that time.

Ochir hasn’t been the best at 70Kg, but seems to have some juice this tournament. Has a win over Zain at 65KG
