I’m gonna hold out some hope that PART of the justification is this is true(John Evans comments). Now it’s a matter of getting this organization addressed.

Oh lord. Doesn't Chaya Raichik have better things to do with her time? It is something **required** by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. See how the safety certificate from AIChE is also on there? All it is is going to be some HR-ish video and quiz about how you need to respect differences and be nice to people. Good grief.

Stuff like this is and has always been outrageous. If I'm paying tens of thousands of dollars to attend your University, where do these power hungry professors get off making 5% of my grade be based on attendance? If I can pass the exams without attending your stupid lectures that's all that should matter. Sad!

I mean yeah, the national org has that certification as part of it or whatever. They also have the safety cert in there. Don't see the big deal. It'll be a couple videos and quizzes you can take a million times about being nice to people.

Not knowing what they're talking about has never stopped anyone on the internet.

Nancy Mace also did the same thing when the third party vendor Clemson uses/used for roommate selection had a drop down menu with 13 genders or whatever. Tried to whip up a panic or whatever over something completely inconsequential and meaningless.

I mean for goodness sakes the name of the course is "Safety, Environmental, and Professional Practice 1". It is basically preparing the ChemEs to be members of a professional workforce and workplace, which often requires dumb HR training

I’m sure a Twitter account called “libs of TikTok” is a reputable source
Like so many accounts that used to be about finding funny stuff for people to laugh at, these folks have gotten full of themselves and now want to basically be pundits.

I’ll say that I don’t think a DEI certificate should be required for anything, but I also don’t think these people are responsible in figuring out what this actually is. It appears it’s not Clemson requiring this, it’s a membership org.

She's caused multiple bomb threats to elementary schools and public libraries because of the nonsense she posts
Kind of hard to say she caused that unless she actually called for bomb threats, or unless you’re consistent in your attribution of responsibility for stuff like that across the board (and nobody actually is who does that). I don’t really have a problem with how that account got started highlighting crazy people on TikTok. But it’s gotten way beyond that and into fairly dumb activism.

Agree. I'm all for exposing things that are shady or potentially unlawful. But sharing an unvetted screenshot without doing any of the research undermines one's own credibility. Sadly, social media rewards this kind of stuff because engagement >>> everything else.

The combination of bad actors + good AI + engagement-driven algorithms has made our society so susceptible to getting duped.

Absolutely. We kind of had a thread about this the other day, and this is my biggest problem with the way many people now treat these accounts as legitimate, and sometimes exclusive, news sources.

Oh, I'm sure. We have regular HR training at my workplace and some of the examples you see during the videos are wild.

We had one recently where the actor walks in and is using all kinds of wild, racial slurs and it's like come on ... this is ridiculous. Most of the DEI training I've had to sit through is surface level "don't use slurs or question people's religious beliefs or sexuality" type stuff. I've never experienced anything beyond that at the corporate level, and most of it's CYA because our hiring practices haven't always aligned with the public-facing diversity goals.
