You can really feel the media pressure starting to mount. I look at the big picture and you could read between the lines many of the comments made on Saturday during the broadcast and at halftime. People see this Iowa offense as irrelevant.
Great comment. I live in the South in the heart of SEC country. If I still worked I know I would hear about it. People down here take their football seriously including some of the senior women around me
There's no shortage of these stories. The verbiage I hear up here (Minnesota) and from friends around the country is similar.
People don't just "see this Iowa offense as irrelevant." It IS irrelevant, and it has been for at least six years. It's a problem that KF, for whatever reason, refuses to fix. He can't fix it. He won't fix it. He's had season after season after season to fix it. It's NOT happening under this head coach, so it's pretty clear that, even though Iowa has won a lot of games with its defense, going forward without an offense ain't gonna work.
What do you expect? We'd be saying the same thing if it were another school that year after year after year stunk up college football with an offense that would have been suspect in 1923. Iowa's futile attempt to run an offense that includes the forward pass has been a national joke for at least six years. SIX YEARS! This is beyond ridiculous. Iowa has had the worst QB play, worst wide receiver play, and worst offense in the country--save for Kaleb Johnson's running--year after year. When does it end? It won't as long as KF is chewing gum and setting records against Albany and UMass.
I assume by your handle that you're near me (Long Beach). Regardless, pretty accurate. Although, it's been several years now where I've heard people talk about the defense being very good and the offense being the polar opposite.

I don’t get how he doesn’t see it himself and say that it is embarrassing to him and the program to have a passing game so bad. He expects perfection out of the defense week in and week out yet the offense gets a pass every freaking week. It’s maddening. I don’t know how Phil Parker isn’t up his butt on every Monday morning saying something in private about the offense and how inept the passing game is.
If we just had an average passing game we would win easily. I wonder if he believes that. He must see it as the greatest area of risk that's not worth it. Like at Ohio State years ago, with about a minute and a half to go, we could go and try to kick the game winning field goal. Nope. We'd have to throw passes. He considered it more likely their defense would score rather than our offense. We lose in OT. Ferentz Fear Factor.

I always thought it funny that Kirk expects Iowa’s offense to do exactly what he wants the defense to force the other team’s offense to do: put together a long drive without making a mistake.

I’m sorry, but despite plenty to criticize regarding the past few years, this stuff is bunk. For example, Tate follows Banks with Chandler as a transition guy on a 10 win team. I call BS on your claim Kirk didn’t like these guys. If he didn’t they wouldn’t have been starting. And your last statement is false. Gronowski showed on Saturday that he can throw the deep ball. The injury kept him from important spring reps, but isn’t holding him back now.
You were doing ok until you said he showed he could throw the deep ball. He threw 1 pass over 10 yards that I can remember.
They weren't being subtle. They basically said Iowa was incapable of throwing a deep pass. They tried it once and got a pass interference penalty for it. Not because our receiver did anything special, the defense was just caught so off guard that's all they could do.
He had more than that. But if you can remember only one, hopefully it’s the downfield throw to Anderson that got the PI.
