naive position on my part, but, do we want or need someone who falsified info to gain advantageous mortgage rates as a member of the FED board?

I would venture a wild guess that folks on here who are anti trump will say yes and pro trump "no". We seem to make our decisions these days on where Trump stands as opposed to the rules of law, which based on the court rulings and overruling by higher courts, seems to be a moving target.

Personally, I don't care if she's fired or not. But this entire episode is more of a verdict on where you stand on Trump, IMO. First, I don't think he should have fired her before she's had her day in court. But, if she has 3 houses with mortgages, all designated as her primary residence, then she either lied when filling out the form or there's some explainable circumstance that she, so far, has decided not to explain. So here's the question. Do we enforce the laws or don't we? It's a fair question to ask why we don't enforce the laws 100% of the time. But can't we ask that about every law on the books? And, isn't that part of our problems today? We seem to be selective about laws we enforce and which citizens will be affected by enforcement.

For all those concerned about the politicization of the FED...isn't it already or hasn't it already been politicized? The governors are appointed by the president and approved by the Senate. Remember when Powell's term was up and suddenly, with numbers similar to today's, rates were reduced. Does anybody believe that the rate reduction, right before an election, was not made to both help Biden and assure Powell's reappointment? Too much of a coincidence for me.
I think I mainly just have a higher standard for someone leading both NASA and the Dept of Transportation than I do one of 7 Fed board members. I care more about the huge amount of insider trading that happens in Congress. They have a chance to directly make decisions that favors themselves on a day to day basis. What she did, was A) a one time thing checking a box she shouldn’t have and B) lowered her offered rate for that one time and no decision she makes on the board will change that rate from that point forward.

All that being said, people keep arguing with me like I am saying she should just walk away. I have never said she was innocent. My claim is that the law should treat her just like anyone else that has done the same thing. But that all the virtue signaling and grandstanding from MAGA about it is ridiculous. The fact that 3 cabinet members have done the same thing just adds to what I already felt. Either it’s just a horrible thing and no one that does it can be trusted and should be fired. Or, you just want Trump to get his way and this is an excuse, and be honest about it.

Did not the media and Senate have the opportunity to seriously vet the candidates and vote on each

I personally have not heard of ONE having what you claim. There may be some so show me what I am ignorant of.

That being said please be aware The lady signed an affidavit under penalty of law that she had never broken any RULES.

She has and unfortunately for her she is sorry she was caught and not that she did it.

100% FIRE HER

I like as I said lily white from a professional background and also the personal backgrounds matter such as domestic violence, not paying the nanny social security , etc.

Some things in a background may be shady but legal is where I have to allow.
Did the senate have the chance to vet her?

Compare her credentials in economics to RFK Jr’s credentials in healthcare and get back to me.

I'm one of those real estate "tycoons", but I do understand macro and micro econ...we'll I'm stretching the term tycoon - (i'm trying to sell a condo :). I remember from econ classes that historically house leads you into a recession and housing leads you out. Right now, I see possibilities of leading us in.....but I also see my grandchildren looking at buying homes and they simply can't afford it. The cost per thousand at 3% is $4.21 at 6% it's $6 -for 30 year mortgage....I'd like to see rates come down. Lower interest rates will help boost the economy in my opinion.

I don't like Trump firing cook just based on allegations. That's a slippery slope. And as I posted some time ago, he must know something we don't, because this was not a smart move
I feel you on the struggles of buying a home right now. Prices have exploded. Prices are way up all around. Lowering interest rates, while a quick fix on borrowing money, would exacerbate Prices going up.

Folks want 30% more for a house they bought in 2020. That's stupid and that needs a correction. Not a lower rate.

Let them be investigated and have the lender snd borrower explain the way the loans are written

Based on the article apparently some lenders encourage the misrepresentation of primary versus secondary homes.

One thing you are NOT BRINGING UP is on a primary home for example property taxes in SC are at 4% which for my family runs about $3000 per year. We inherited a house which became a secondary house and not the primary. We had to pay $6000 at 6% for the house. That plus some insurance policies are higher when primary versus secondary is used.

The houses were basically identical in square footage so you see the valuation difference in making primary versus secondary or rental home.

The property taxed are fraud when attempted.

So to answer the question you are posing I say investigate and clean up this as I follow the laws and i expect others to follow the laws.

Does that answer your question.

The lady still needs to be removed if found providing false information.

Right now I am trying to talk to property tax assessors in Polk County and Miami about tax policies on reassessment to make a point with Lafayettebear.

I like information from the horse’s mouth.

I am almost positive they did and the mortgage issue was clearly not brought up.

I think it was probably concealed at that time.

It it had been brought up and she was still confirmed the I would argue she was investigated and confirmed with the issue being exposed so she should NOT BE REMOVED.

If that makes sense because if people are made aware of something and still vote YES then accept you voted knowing the flaw.

Since the Lisa Cook accusations came from the administration and not the lending institution, the same could be true about Cook. Could be why Bondi is having the DOJ investigate, not the institution and the usual investigators.

What if her lending institution said that they encouraged her to do the same as you said on the others and don't view it as criminal?

I understand the point you're trying to make here. But the Senate doesn't enforce the laws....if they knew about it they should have referred her to DoJ. I don't equate this crime with murder or armed robbery. We likely could solve the problem by having the lenders call the loans. And then we could at least see a result.

I get you though. Remember though that she was nominated by Biden, democrats controlled the Senate and Kamala had to vote to break a 50-50 vote.

Is she being made a scapegoat? Of course she is. Is Trump working for his majority on the board? It sure seems like it. Did she violate the law? appears so. Do a lot of Americans do the same thing? yep, no question. Maybe even some on here casting the stones have done it themselves.

well to show my business acumen, I bought a property before selling the one I had (I already have a separate primary residence in Florida) so now I have 3. And, just to go one step further, I paid top dollar on the purchase and have proceeded to put in total new kitchen, new floors, new master bath, new drapes and automatic shades, and all new lighting. And after two months still haven't sold my first unit. In my defense, both my wife and I really wanted this unit, had been looking at similar ones for 5 years. And hey, my wife is happy, that's all that matters

I'll never get my money back on this new place, but as I'm moving a little closer in the "check out lane" every day, having to deal with it will become my son's problem :)

Worst part is that in my building units usually sell within days and prices already have moved downward by about $40k.

But, you know what life goes on. By the way, carrying 3 mortgages will make a man out of you!!
