We have an edge in special teams….kickers are even, but our punter and return game is better.

Our run game on O is better than their run D, but their pass D is better than our pass O.

Our run D is better than their run O, but their pass O is better than our pass D.

All in all, a pretty even matchup, which means it’s going to come down to TO margin like it usually does.

I think we pull it out 23-21.
I don't think your punter and return game are better. They're a push, if anything. Our kicker averaged 48.6 yards per punt against K-State and never had to punt against South Dakota to around 50 per punt for your guy. Meantime, we had two long punt returns against South Dakota and our guy is averaging 58.5 yards a return on a very small sample size of two returns.

P4 doesn’t exist anymore. It’s P2 and everyone else. Quit categorizing the big 12 and the ACC in the same category as the Big Ten and SEC it’s ridiculous.
Once could argue it’s actually the power 10 teams and everybody else.

Maybe at some point the money will make everybody in big ten and sec better than anybody in the big XII and ACC but I don’t think we are there yet.

Not sure Cyclone fans would agree on special teams 🤔

Iowa lost in 2022 and 2024 mostly due to QB play and giving up too many explosive plays in the passing game last year.

Turnovers were huge for Iowa's wins in Ames over past 6 game win streak. Turnovers by Iowa fueled Iowa State's two game win streak over Iowa.

If Iowa is going to win, I see a need to get up 6+ and avoid a late field goal for ISU. Of course, one possession may not be enough.

A 31-17 type game like 2015 or that 27-21 in 2013. A possible type skin of teeth situation, but better get up, hang on.

Go Hawks ✌️

Clones win 31-6. Our back 7 is pretty rough. Becht is very good. They have solid TEs and our linebackers are inexperienced and were often out of position last Saturday. With no threat of a passing game, this will be another year of playing in a phone booth. Awfully hard to get the run game going with 9 in the box all night. This is going to be a nightmare.

State by 10. (hurts to type that)

What it comes down to is there are mixed opinions on here as to whether Gronowsky reinjured his shoulder early in the game. Based on the game thread I suspect that is the case.
IF in fact he was NOT hurt, may God have mercy on his and our souls this next Saturday.

:(

It's a great sports cliche', but not exactly. With a few exceptions the better team usually wins. Rarely does Iowa lose to ISU and go on to have a great year.

Last 5 losses to ISU Iowa's season record was...

2024 8-5 (Iowa choked a game they should have won)
2022 7-5
2014 7-6
2012 4-8
2010 7-6

If Rocco Becht has a good day, ISU wins. Quarterbacks matter.
Rocco was 19 of 20, and they pulled him to protect him. Best percentage game ever by any ISU QB.

Dude, we beat an FCS team picked to finish near the bottom of their conference by 27. That's nothing to thump your chest over. ISU won 55-7 over the #5 ranked FCS team and looked good doing it.
And half the game was played by the #2 QB.

Kansas State is a mediocre team. Dropped INT, Brian Ferentzish play calling and a horrible spot on 4th and 2 kept them from beating ISU.

North Dakota was 5-7 last year and should have beat KSU (pre-season Big 12 favorite) on the road with a rookie coach and rookie QB.

Two things you can likely count on, though. Game will be close and ISU fans will be insufferable d'bags.
iowa fans calling any other fan base “dbags” is laughable. The iowa fan base has more than it’s share of said fans.

It's a crap shoot in my opinion. If Iowa's passing game can click even moderately I would say Iowa. I believe Phil will have the D ready and special teams will be what special teams always does.

Agree…(We haven’t had a “moderately” successful passing offense since…2019?)

..Although…I’m worried that Becht will have no problem exposing Hall and Nwankpa to a tune of too many points for us to handle.

I am guessing D will mostly be Cash.

What do you think our record would be this year if we played in the Big12?

A couple of points, ISU took a knee at the KSU one yard line to run out the clock and win the game, they could have easily scored again. Didn't have too so they didn't. The Squawks special teams will not be better than ISU on Saturday, the kicker for ISU hit a 63 yard field goal Saturday, remember him, he hit the game winner last season of 51. ISU returned a punt for 99 yards, but he stepped out of bounce and it was called back by review so only 60 yards. We also have a decent punter.
ISU will crowd the box and stop the run, you are already down one RB, so unless your QB had a hiccup Saturday, it's going to be a long day for the squawk offense. Your DBs have shown they cannot stop anyone throwing the ball down the field, Rocco will be one of the better QBs the squawks face this season. I get the feeling that a lot of squawk fans will be on here Saturday night crying about how ISU can find really good QBs and look at what we have.
The way to beat ISU is the one thing the squawks do poorly, that is passing the ball down field, unless that improves, ISU will stop the run enough to get the win.
Yet Brock Purdy never beat Iowa.

There is a big difference between you and the poster you are admonishing. You went to Iowa and they didn’t. The inferiority complex they deal with manifests itself in strange ways.
Hate to break it to you Clown.......Big10/SEC>>>>>>>>ACC/Lil12/MAC

I don't know how many times it needs to be said, but the outcome of this game will be determined not by how Becht will play, but by how much Iowa's QB improves from week 1. Becht is an excellent QB and will be one all year. He makes great decisions and great throws. Iowa on the other hand has no idea if they have a capable QB or not. If he plays well, Iowa has a great chance in this game. If he plays poorly Iowa has no chance.

When have our fans assaulted visiting band members?? And if anything like that ever happened at Iowa, I guarantee our high-class AD wouldn't just brush it off & blame the band kids.

B.S. I've never heard anything of the sort
Neither have I. I did a quick internet search and found nothing.

What happened in Ames was shameful. Band kids don't get NIL money or scholarships. They tend to be really good kids. This was no doubt alcohol fueled (I like booze but lets be reasonable on how much!)
ISU claimed that it happened to them in the past and, if true, that is also not okay.

Here is an article from that time:

As fans we might not like the outcome of a game but be respectful of the opposing team/ band / fans. I know alcohol is a factor, but when did being over the top disrespectful -throwing stuff at players and/or band kids become acceptable? (Side note: I remember PSU fans throwing objects at Iowa and Paterno had to go out there and tell them to stop -so this isn't a unique problem within the state of Iowa)

My take is the later the game, the more booze is consumed and the more out of control the fans get -its really fun up to a point, and then it can get ugly in a hurry.

Bottom line: every school has its fair share of idiots -no school is exempt, including U of I and ISU.
