If you haven't noticed there is a divide in the fan base.

When the passing game sucks ... some blame the QB
Some blame the WR's (or if your prefer, just: RECEIVERS, like in TEs/RBs/FBs)
Some blame the coaches (aka Scheme)
Some blame the excellence of the opponent's secondary
Some blame the refs (you knew I had to throw that in there)

In this thread we will hash out this issue. Feelings will be hurt. People will be banned. Lives will be lost. Galaxies will be destroyed, but dammit, we will reach a consensus. J/K that will never happen, and that's the HELL that the 1st amendment has wrought.

Here's some fresh meat. The separation issue. "You can't throw the pigskin without good separation"
OK, here's an idea, you pay some young guy a million dollars to come in and throw lasers so that every receiver route doesn't require 5 yards of separation in order to attempt a completion. Because sometimes, your opponent has a talented secondary and you have to "out-talent" your rival with a golden-arm QB ... or if not that, maybe a genius OC who can scheme his way to a passing game.

I think fans blanket statement blame WR separation because it's been a narrative for years now.

And in fairness, this was largely confirmed in the Brain era because their routes were straight basic level dog sh**.

Iowa's WRs aren't taught to create separation the way the top 50 passing offenses are doing these days.

However.......in tandem, you need a QB that is on the same page with his receivers and can, and this is very important.........THROW HIS DAMN RECEIVERS OPEN.

If you want to know the difference between Iowa and everyone else in the country, including a f***ing below average team like Albany at the FCS level, there was a play either in the 1st Qtr or 4th (can't remember which, but those were the only two Qtrs I bothered watching because of how big of a huge embarrassing failure this game was.....yes it was), where Albany's QB fired a pass down the seam to the right for a chunk gain and that was the kind of a throw and play that Iowa just absolutely refuses to make/try/execute/whatever word you want to use to describe what they do not f***ing do with their passing offense.

But here we have a QB from U Albany..............the WR runs a seam route, is moreso towards the sideline and the defender to his inside, and yet the pass comes to the middle of the field and the WR gets the defender out of position running his route, and works back to the ball for the tight window throw and catch.

Iowa would f***ing never, against anybody (at least not anymore)....and yeah some of that could be because Kirk coaches the fear of the turnover into his players. But a team like Albany would take that risk. In fact, most teams would take that risk. And while sure that can lead to turnovers, the problem is the best teams can easily make those throws and Iowa does not get turnovers on those throws against the best teams, like Ohio State..............

And even if they do get one or two picks, a team like an Ohio State knows, they're still good enough to come back to it and make up for it through the air later on.

For Iowa, trying that and failing makes it seem like some sort of devastating f***ing occurrence and all hope is lost............and it was just one pick thrown at the 6:50 mark in the 1st Qtr.

But if that happens to Iowa, it's like their body language changes and it's as if they've just been told they've all been kicked off the team and expelled from college......................

Why.........Coach Ferentz? Why does your team react like that? Every single game.....year after year.



P.S. oh and remember how I said Iowa doesn't make these kind of throws "anymore". If you want an example of what I'm describing, refer back to the 2009 Iowa-Wisconsin game where Stanzi found Tony Moeaki down the middle on a throw where the pass was out before Moeaki even started to look back for the ball, and he just happened to turn and get his hands out right as the ball got to him for a big pass play that I believe was part of an eventual scoring drive.

So it's been done before in the KF era.....................just not anymore.

Why? Because f*** us and we can't have nice things, I guess.

In a presser before the game, in response to a question about Groank, KF said: "I just don't want him to try and do too much"
ALL OF US, including the people who are gonna lie and pretend differently, knew what that was about. That was a dog-whistle reminding Groank and Lester that at Iowa, we don't do sexy. Albany is pre-season here at Iowa. If a satellite in space can detect a thermal image anywhere within 3 kilometers of our WR, then throw the ball into the stands or into the turf.

KF hates turnovers. Passing past 5 yards is more likely to get intercepted.

It’s all about burning clock to keep the other team off the field and throw only we forced too. If you win the turnover battle statistically you have a greater chance of winning.

He started trying to run out the clock in the 1st quarter today
