Just wait till they start conference play. It will get worse. Hopefully yesterday’s game was an outlier

Some people that cover the team. Been saying in cryptic ways. The defense will be bad for the last few months. But this bad?

😳

Schiano is aware, he said the defense will get better every game and I believe him based on the miracle turnaround on D last yr. A lot of transfers, freshman playing, too many moving parts early in the season, it will get better.

Watching the replay, there were a ton of missed assignments, guys out of position, and some poor tackling (including angles) and those things can be addressed to some degree while trying to meld a cohesive unit. However, the lack of push/penetration up front will likely remain an issue, as that's about the strength/skill of the players mostly.

I agree, I think some of the assignment issues and tackling can improve. Some of it was typical 1st game stuff you see. The most disturbing thing to me was up front on the DL. If they can’t physically dominant a MAC OL with 4 new starters, it’s a red flag to me. We will see if it was the Ohio offensive scheme causing hesitancy or if it’s just a talent issue.

Should any of that be a problem against Ohio University? Seems strange. We will see what happens Saturday against Miami Ohio. They were shut against Wisky 17-0. If they give RU a tough game and score 20+ or 30 points against this defense, we have serious problems. I don’t usually put a lot on game 1 but there were some disturbing signs.

Miami didn't show an offense that should score anything like Ohio, but you would expect Wisky to score more than 17 against a MAC team. RU will win but this not a cupcake game.
