Best news I have heard all year! Hopefully Iowa hires an AD that is forward thinking and aggressive in his pursuit of constantly working to improve the Iowa athletic brand. We need an AD that is willing to think outside of the box but yet still operate within NCAA guidelines.

It appears to have been (1) an amazingly well-kept secret or (2) a sudden decision. Either way, count me among those who will shed no tears as GarBar disappears into the sunset. I know nothing about his apparent successor, Ms. Goetz, but it seems she would be a natural given her experience and the million-dollar failures Barta is leaving behind.

So then the question is this: With his best buddy and guardian retired (although Barta only turns 60 in September), what does that mean for the future of 68-year-old Kirk Ferentz? Will he quickly follow Barta into retirement, or will he keep hanging on? Will that decision depend on how the 2023 football season goes? And who do you suppose Ms. Goetz has on her short list of head football coach candidates?

The Barta era is all but over. When will we be able to say that about the Ferentz era?

"Keep hanging on" as he's arguably the best coach Iowa's ever had. Lord have mercy, we just went to the B1G Championship game. Don't turn us into Minnesota.

Sorry, Mrs. Ferentz, but Evy and Hayden weren't too bad. KF would be no better than No. 3 on any objective list. KF has consistently failed to understand offense, failed to evaluate offensive skill positions--especially QB--and he has been satisfied with hiring best friends and one son as his OC, leading to the nation's worst offense last year . . . so the reality is that KF owes his success to four things: (1) Gary Barta and his lack of accountability (2) Norm Parker (3) Phil Parker, and (4) MAC and FCS nonconference games and membership in the West Division.

And that's without even mentioning the Rhabdo fiasco and the recent lawsuit over how some black players found KF's leadership lacking.

Yes, it's just my opinion. But then it is based on FACTS, although we know many people prefer to make up their own "facts" these days.

Nothing you said even approaches "facts" except hiring his son. You even imply an opinion that it was a bad hire. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but none of those things are "facts". For example, KF is responsible for Norm and Phil being at Iowa, not the other way around. KF had tied for two titles, had three consecutive ten-win seasons, played in two Orange Bowls, winning one, before the Big Ten broke into divisions? Those are facts, things that happen and require no explanation or implication-just the reality of what happened.
