Graham may beat Gate City. Graham may be favored or considered favorites over Gate City in the west. As a matter of fact, I'm going to go with exactly what happened last year. I think Graham beats Gate City and wins that region again and Radford beats Martinsville, leaving a repeat of last year's matchups with GC vs Radford and Martinsville vs Graham in the first games of the state tournament in the western part of the state.

I also think both results of the two games above will be different than last year with Radford beating GC and Martinsville beating Graham in a very close game.

Will any of the five “G’s” make it to Richmond?

If any do, it won't be Gate City or Graham. It will be George Mason if any make it. Don't sleep on Greensville County. Always a threat and lost a close one on the road last night to Goochland. Assuming East Rock beats George Mason today, East Rock is not a sure win in game 1 of the state tournament versus Greensville County. This team has a history of peaking late in the year and at the right time. The speed and quickness on the defensive end of Greensville County could be an issue for East Rock who will be the heavy favorite, but I wouldn't be shocked if it's a close game.

Interesting that the AA final four from football all made the State Quarterfinals...but it won't be the same champion...

If George Mason coach Capp had East Rock talent, I’d bet the farm on his team. That man can coach basketball!!!!

Definitely a great coach. They have several very nice guards with Max Ashton, Hollman Smith and Deven Martino. All three can create for themselves either getting to the rim or stepping back from well behind the arc. I haven't seen Goochland but I wouldn't bet against Mason, they are well coached, well schooled and talented.

There was talk of the state semifinals for West being at Tazewell. Anyone heard this? Would that gym accommodate a Radford V. GC rematch? I know there isn’t as much hype, but I think a ton of people would want to see it again. I’ve never been to that gym.

Also, would VHSL make Radford travel that far being the higher ranked team?

No way I see that being the case. As you said, Radford would have the choice in that scenario. Salem Civic Center or Tech would be appropriate I would believe, not sure about Roanoke College (don't know how many it seast)... though I think I heard somewhere Tech charges quite a bit to hold special events in Cassell?

I believe Tazewell is about an hour and 15 minutes from us. I don't know how far it is for Gate City to Tazewell. I'm guessing about the same and Tazewell seats 3,000. I want GC to travel further if we play them! I want every advantage we can get. Pulaski is the place to play it. Salem would be nice, but it's hard to justify making a team like GC who is already making a long trip to the Radford area travel even further east to Salem.

I want a homecourt advantage and if not, then play it at a large enough facility like Radford U or Cassell where GC doesn't have a home court advantage. Playing it at Tazewell? I'm afraid GC fans would buy up all the tickets or be hanging out there the night before and it's to close to comfort for me.

Last year when Gate City played Graham at Tazewell in the semifinal, they wouldn't let anyone on the school grounds till after 3:30 that afternoon if I recall correctly because the game was on a school day.

Yep, I watched that game. It was jammed wall to wall, but the facility was nice. Tazewell has one of the larger gyms in the state of Virginia for any public program. I've been to Princeton High School, WV, gym and that gym looks very similar to Tazewell's in size.

Wouldn't GC v. Radford be a Final Four match up?
