Great news for residents of Bennington. This will be great for the kids.

Betting the farm the name will be Bennington South. Hope they pick an awesome mascot.

Good for Bennington. Crazy to think they were a Class C not too long ago. The metro area continues to expand.

Read recently that there is a Lutheran High School in Fremont opening up. Also Heartland Lutheran in Grand Island is undergoing a bit of a reorganization which includes a name change.

I saw something about the new Lutheran school in Fremont, but hadn't seen anything on Heartland Lutheran changing names. I still struggle with St Francis being Archangels.

It’s always great to see a community look past the dollar signs and do what’s right for kids. Wish more places would do the same.
I think several places vote them down because the schools are being filled with option students and transfer students. Communities don't want to pay for a new school that is going to be filled with kids that come from families that didn't contribute a dime to the total cost. I know Malcolm has this issue....busting at the seams with students, but a good chunk of them don't live in Malcolm.

I don't think Bennington takes option students, so probably not the reason it took a while to pass there.

Effective July 1st, Trinity Lutheran School is acquiring Heartland Lutheran High School to form a new K-12 unified Lutheran school alliance.

The school will be changing its name to Grand Island Lutheran High School and the school's mascot will change from Red Hornets to the "Lightning"

This will probably put Bennington Class A for the 2026 and 2027 football schedule cycle. Here are the grade totals right now for Bennington. They are exploding, pushing class sizes of nearly 400 at the lower levels. North Platte is the smallest Class A school with a three-year class average of 286 per grade. South Sioux City is 292 per grade average.

10th - 266
9th - 301
8th - 321
7th - 370
6th - 339
5th - 377
4th - 390

How long until North Platte falls below the Class A cutoff line?

It's a real possibility in the next 4 to 6 years. Their 3rd to 7th grade public school class sizes are 240 to 270, which would put them at B. Obviously, you could have move-ins from neighboring communities, though boost that if they decide to go there.

3rd grade - 250
4th grade - 246
5th grade - 247
6th grade - 263
7th grade - 240
8th grade - 273

Current 9 to 12 has sizes of this:
270
304
283
288

Which would be good for North Platte. Sustainable Beef coming in will slowly build up the population, but many families are choosing to go to Hershey, Maxwell, Maywood and some St. Pat's.

I believe North Platte wants to be Class B and I don't blame them. Unlike similar schools like Columbus and Fremont, they want to be in Class A.

B would be great if you could have North Platte, Fremont, Columbus and Norfolk in there.
