so as I was watching the game there was a kickoff and the Catholic kid caught the kickoff at about the ONE yard line and went into the endzone. He then ran it out of the endzone. The whistle should have blown and a touchback should have been called correct? It is my understanding of the rule that anytime a player goes into the endzone on a kickoff it is a touchback. what am i missing here.

I know the play you speak of. I'd say he caught it on the goal line, or slightly in the end zone. IMO, it should have been a touchback.
