CO transfers to NE

With Colorado moving their football season to the spring I’ve heard from more than a few out west that kids are already making plans for a move into Nebraska to play this fall. One coach told me last night that cabins surrounding Lake Mac have been mentioned as rentals for players/families that would be opting into Ogallala. I would assume that schools like Kimball, Potter/Dix, Sidney, etc. would be first in line to receive some transplants from CO. Will be interesting to see how many new faces we see this fall playing ball at NE high schools.

I'm sure they will have to show proof of change of domicile to the NSAA in order to do this. My biggest question is what do the smaller schools do with football and track going on in the spring? Do kids get to play multiple sports in Colorado during the same season?

Would not shock me at all to see Ogallala gain kids from CO. Same with Holoyke kids going to Imperial.

Say a kid lives in Julesburg, can’t he or she still live and drive the 12 miles to South Platte or 32 miles to Ogallala and not have to sit out? Because it’s across state lines? Or is that incorrect?

I think South Platte, Ogallala, Sidney and Imperial will get some kids. Doubt Potter-Dix or Kimball gain any. Not a lot of towns North of Sterling and west to Fort Collins.

Maybe some Wray, Colorado kids go to Dundy County?

I'm not sure how one transfers between states, but past May 1st the only way to transfer and have immediate eligibility is to actually have a change of domicile. I don't think it being an out of state school would make a difference in that situation.

I've seen it mentioned by some that OPS is delaying their announcement to effect transfers in some way...which just doesn't make sense. It's after May 1st...90 sit out unless there's a change of domicile is relatively clear cut.

You are correct. After doing more research last night, a student has to have a new home or PO Box in the district they want to go to school at.

I can PROMISE you the loop holes around these transfer rules are sickening...I still have nightmares about our best player leaving ONE week before fall camp and becoming immediately eligible at another school in 2016...literally sick to my stomach.

If you want to transfer, it doesnt take much to make it happen. Think of the some of the private school that have dorms, and how easy that will be for them. Or the many options of getting a mailing address is way easy.

This is an NSAA recruitment violation.

Colorado doesn't have football and track scheduled at the same time.

Season A (Sept-Oct): XC, boys tennis, boys golf, softball

Season B: (Jan-early March): basketball, wrestling, girls swim, hockey, skiing

Season C: (late Feb to early May) football, volleyball, field hockey, gymnastics, boys soccer

Season D: late April- late June): baseball, track, boys swim, lacrosse, girls golf, girls soccer, girls tennis, boys volleyball.

They designed the year around a late fall flair up.

The Denver Post had an article about the top rated QB in Colorado who was considering a transfer to a high school in Des Moines.
