Other Sports Track Districts

Track districts are listed on the NSAA page. They are very different than years past. There used to be 11 districts of 8 teams in class C. This year it is 9 districts of 9 or 10 teams. I must have missed a proposal last year. I don't remember hearing or seeing anything about this potentially happening.

Change isn't always a bad thing, but I can't figure out why the coaches/NSAA would want to move away from something that has worked for so long (11 districts of 8 teams). With more than 8 teams in a district you have to have additional heats of relays (which wastes time because those teams in the extra heat have no chance to qualify).

Edit: I looked back and saw that this was approved last April.

Yes.... Benkelman to Amherst/Kearney Catholic and Valentine to Norfolk Catholic/Lutheran High NE don't make a ton of sense, but it is likely that the district would be hosted somewhere inbetween those schools. That at least eliminates the brutal drive for each.

I'm interested to see how it works out with 2 less districts.

Districts in C and D have gone to Fully Automated Timing (FAT). With that proposal, there was a move from 11 districts to 9 districts. Running event qualification will now be the top 2 individuals plus the next 6 fastest time regardless of place. In theory, 3rd-8th in a district could qualify if they are the next 6 fastest. In relays, the top team in each district, plus the next 7 fastest times regardless of place, will qualify.

Weather could make a bigger difference with more "next fastest" qualifiers. One part of the state to the next.

My understanding is that they will take the top 2 placers in each field event at each district (9*2=18). They will also take the automatic qualifiers. If there is not 6 automatic qualifiers (18+6=24) they will take the top marks at districts until they get to 24. If there is a tie for 24th they won't take anyone involved in that tie.

My guess is that Southern Valley or Cambridge will host the C-8 while West Holt hosts the C-5 seeing as that these schools have hosted in the past.

My question is why Sutherland ended up in a district with Chase County and Perkins County but Dundy County wasn't included in that same district. You would think they would have left Dundy and Sutherland in their respective time zones.

Maybe the NSAA doesn't know where Dundy County is located.

Or realize there is a different time zone in the western part of the state. That would be a lot to ask of them.
