Multiplier Question

Montini, Chicago Hope, Althoff and St Laurence are all going to be multiplied next year and all lost to public schools in last years playoffs.

Wheaton Academy lost to St Laurence who then lost to Rochester and will be multiplied next year as well.

Is there any current private school that is multiplied that lost to a public school in the playoffs?

Perhaps a good new rule would be that if a private school loses to a public school or a public school wins the state championship schools are eligible for a multiplier waiver.

St Laurence lost to Rochester last year by 21 points. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for them to now be multiplied. Right?

I’m not a fan of this debate. Maybe back in my younger days, but not anymore. You should know my stance by now @colin2229 as we’ve both been on the message board for a while. Current system seems pretty fair. It just seems that the good smaller private schools will cycle through the lower classifications. I personally kinda think that if a team can make the playoffs from the Catholic league they shouldn’t really be in the smallest classes.

As you pointed out in another thread, next year you will have IC in 2A and SHG in 3A.
They will immediately be favored in their respective classes.

Hypothetically, if Montini was 4A, would they be favored in the north?

St Laurence has over 1100 students and in 4A and they get to recruit.

I agree with the multiplier. Just got thinking that maybe it needs to get tweaked since several private schools are getting bumped up without being the best teams in their class.

Byron won the state title last year by 63pts and another team is getting bumped up…seems wrong.

Why is that fine?
Why is 3 playoff games in 2 years the cutoff?
What if your 3 playoff wins are verse Chicago public schools and then you lose by 50 to a public school?

The point is they should be 5A at the least maybe 6A if the real numbers were disclosed. So they already have a unfair advantage with enrollment. Advantage also, is if they didn’t get the transfer QB from Lake Central, Indiana 36 miles away STL, they are probably only a 1 or 2 win team this year.

Contact IHSA on how they do enrollment…it was covered.

What’s your rub with them??? It’s getting weird.

I was responding to his comment about “wavier for losing to public” and just stating facts about the school. Private vs Public always has people posting their opinions. I support and back public schools and what is fair. Public schools don’t have the flexibility of transfers like private schools unless you are a top at 8A. If IHSA is fine with it there’s nothing I can say that’s going to change it lol

If you win 3 playoff games in 2 years, it means you’ve at least made a quarterfinal. That is a “playoff run” in my mind. Not everyone gets to win. We should all be able to acknowledge that there are certain benefits that come with private schools and how they attract students. There are also certain disadvantages to the money it costs to attend those schools.

Just because a private school loses to a public school it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be multiplied when eligible

Blame the IHSA. They have decided the success factor, like everything else is on a 2 year window of results and those windows don’t overlap. MC won in ‘22 & ‘23 but those years were in 2 different windows according to the IHSA. If MC or Naz don’t win a trophy this season, they’ll be in the same classes again. Or at least they won’t have a success factor applied.

If either make the championship game this year, they will have the success factor applied. That applies to JCA as well, since they made the championship game last year, even though they lost.
