Thoughts on ESL VS CG

I can remember in 2019. The message was that East Side wasn't discipline. They weren't going to be able to stop the option offense by Prairie Ridge. Once they made their adjustments in the 2nd half. Which most teams do. They were on point. What I remember most of that game. Is the first possession of the 3rd quarter. Prairie Ridge took nearly 7 minutes off the clock. They got down to close to the goal line. Instead of kicking the field goal. They were stopped on 4th down. I told my boy. U have to kick the field goal. Get the points. East Side hadn't trailed all season. U didn't get anything. Within 4 plays. East Side scored. The momentum had switched to them. Especially after Prairie Ridge made them fumble right before halftime. East Side isn't going to take Cary Grove lightly. At all. It's been two years since they seen an offense like this. Cary Grove hasn't seen a offense like this. I'm expecting a good game. 72hrs and 28 minutes to game time.

Maybe at the time those teams were ranked top 5 nationally but only two teams ESL played are in the top 50 currently. So I would say this is factually inaccurate. Bosco is 8, IMG 16 at present
That’s currently, Not at the time they played.

Cary-Grove has an outstanding football team. One of the best programs in the state year in and year out. They are going to need some help though. Turnovers could be the key, but ESL rarely coughs it up. Penalties for sure don't matter. ESL gets flagged more than any team in the state and they don't even blink. Sunkett is a great coach. LB3 is unbelievably good. High powered offense is what most people think when they think ESL, but Crusader is right, their defense this year is lights out. There has been some talk on here about trouble defending the triple option? I just don't see it. The Flyers have seen it all before. This years defense is extremely fast and very, VERY physical. I see them knocking the ball loose and ESL taking advantage and putting up some big numbers. Nobody in the state is on their level.

I have been saying this about the defense all year see post earlier in thread.

Only team we can’t seem to beat is Mt. Carmel…. They have had our number. Nothing but respect ✊🏾

The CG Offense is about alignment, assignments being carried out and using angle blocking to allow the ball carriers a path to the 2nd level.
They can chew up a lot of time.
If they finish drives, I like their chances.

That offense is tough and CG FB is a big boy…it’s going to be interesting for sure. We struggle with the triple option. O-line down block low..We never see it until Playoffs. Hopefully we can take advantage on offense. CG defense is aggressive as well. They don’t wait. They are trained to attack. Small DL means quick swim/spin moves against our O-Line..that’s where the holding happens. It’s going to be a fight.

LB3 - but dammit, I LOVE Toriano Pride. I mean, I watch him and know what's happening with the play. Him, 21, and 44 ... and the big boys in the trenches, their D don't suck as it has in recent years.
2016 was the best defensive ESL team I’ve seen year to date…Those boys were super aggressive and disciplined.

Don’t know why CG is being compared to the PR team ESL played in the state title game, this CG team is far better then what that team was. Also that PR team was probably the worst team PR had in that time span when Superman was there. Yes I know he wasn’t on that state team vs ESL.

And I don't know why most of you think CG is the best thing in Chicago since the 85 Bears. Come on guys CG is good but they are not on the radar as The Loyola', LWE's, MC's and so on. CG is having a fantastic year, Lets not go overboard. CG will play on the field vs East Side

No one is saying they’re the best, they just have a good enough program to compete with anyone in the state.

Saying most of us is a stretch. There are a few highly confident CG fans but most of us are grounded and have said from the start that CG has their work cut out for them. The moon and stars will have to align Saturday. Talk amongst us girls is irrelevant and we’ll have to see what happens.

Pretty poor comment, honestly. Nobody is on here calling CG the greatest thing on turf…. While this is 2021, when they won in 2009 over Providence Catholic, that was a PC team that beat all other conference contenders that year, including MC and Loyola. The point being they’ve fielded some teams that compete with the best in the state and have thus been on the same ”radar” as the “big” programs’ names. Is the 2021 team one of them? Don’t know about that yet. Over and out.

The funny thing is that none of the teams that you mentioned are in the state finals, of course that doesn't mean they are great programs. CG certainly deserves to be in the conversation of the best programs in the state currently. Do they have the history of some of the CCL schools? No, certainly not long term history. Maybe part of the problem is that they have not put a lot of kids in D! college football. But IMHO opinion, that makes their accomplishments even more impressive. 17 straight years making the playoffs, won every 1st round game during that time, this is their 6 time in the state finals in that time frame. ESL is obviously one of, if not the best, programs in the state, and have a great team this year, loaded with talent, but the great thing is, in a little more than 48 hours, all of our opinions will not mean crap, we will see what happens on the field.

I've watched them play and they are very good, they are certainly an underdog this weekend but I think their chances are a lot higher then most on this board are giving them. Its very similar to 2009 when they played Providence.
I seen ESL play Lemont in person, without LB3 this game would of went down to the wire,he is a special talent, best I’ve seen in years!

Lemont has a good team this year. I think we failed to mention that. You don’t make it to the Quarterfinals with a undefeated record by accident. To your point, LB3 is definitely a game changer.

The Bulls wouldn’t be the Bulls without Jordan. Tampa Bay wouldn’t have won without Brady. I’m not sure why certain comments like this are made. Lemont isn’t as good without the big RB. Take LB3 out and the RB out and the score is still the same. Trying to descredit a team after losing is not a good look. Especially when a Freshman rushed for the same amount of yards as Lemont top Senior RB.

Why are you making people up? Noone is acting like that, let alone "most" of the board. The most vocal pro-CG people aren't even hyping them this much.

I used most as to not single anyone out. Maybe not a good word to use but those who need to know get my point

Who discredited anyone,Lemont had a great year and very good team,I know kids on that team and they played their hearts out, teams with the best player on the field don’t always win the game, this time they did,LB3 is that good!I will never discredit any high school team or player, they’re kids,so I don’t know where you’re coming from with that opinion.
