The remaining 8 schools have Soph teams so, scheduling issues since they all have frosh teams? Been told the Soph teams will play JV squads the weeks they play the 6 slackers. Yep, slackers. I’ve seen, and had kids on, Soph teams at Willowbrook with less than 20 on the roster. And they’ve had success and readied played for their varsity years. So I find it hard to believe that these schools, some with some of the largest enrollments in the state (Leyden & OPRF - 3400 kids, 14th & 15th largest in state! Even the smallest in the group, Hinsdale South, has 1400 students), can’t find 16 - 25 Soph boys to play ball. Hard to believe. Has to be something else.

With 4 of the 6 on the Gold side makes it a big hill to climb for WB, DGS and Morton Soph squads to be playing JV rosters all year. Good luck boys…
I also find hard to believe they can’t field a soph team

Bowie what are you hearing in Palatine? Fremd and Palatine?
Also what’d you think of jamboree weekend?
Palatine will be back up and Fremd will be down. Both frosh teams sound VERY strong from my Intel, but curious to hear what others are hearing

Saw some decent numbers at Homer Stallions today, they feed into Lockport HS. While not HS I always like to see what the lower levels look like. Plus they have a great set up with their field, all day event.
I was just going to ask how numbers look at the youth levels and especially if anyone knew about Homer. Thanks for the info here.

Very surprised by the 30 number at Glenbrook South. I have no idea how that compares to recent years, but GBS is the second largest school on the above list after New Trier, yet it has the lowest number of freshmen football players of all the schools on that list. I wonder what they had in the Mike Noll era.

Well, Ramblinman, you know where the best Glenview football 8th matriculate to, and it isn't GBS.

To be fair, this is above where GBS was in the spring. Considering the demographics of the school, it isn't fair to compare to many other schools in their conference.

I know where most of the OLPH football players matriculate to, but last time I checked there were two public middle schools in Glenview, both of which have enrollments for grades 6-8 that are larger than the entire PK-8 enrollment at OLPH. Sure, LA will typically get a handful of freshmen football players from Attea and Springman and several handfuls from OLPH, but what are the rest of those Attea and Springman boys doing?

Please don't bemoan the demographics at GBS. They are a bigger school than Maine East and Maine West, both of which have larger freshman football numbers than GBS this year according to Quags, and both of which likely have far less favorable demographics than GBS when it comes to football.

Rice has 57 Frosh. Marist 52 MC 61 and Loyola 122 (just kidding)
Marist is the frosh team to beat - 7 off Orland Pioneers - MC with 2 and Rice 2

MC has the QB from that Orland team and he’s going to be special from what I’m told.

Fair point. All I can counter with that Glenview had 24 8th graders on jr titans last spring, so they picked up some kids.

Reality is last week probably saw 2x as many kids at travel lacrosse tryouts than at football practice.

I think the real question is why are there only 24 8th graders on the jr titans in a community the size of Glenview. The kids that GBS picked up could well be OLPH grads that didn't go to Loyola.

They undoubtedly should have more. That said, Jr Titans lacrosse scheduling games the same days as jr titans football definitely doesn't help thing.

Wow... WWS at 25. I can remember when my NN Huskies and WWS often had 90+ on the frosh team. WN usually had good numbers but always less than WWS.
They have 33 on the freshman squad and 40 eighth graders playing which should bode well since they pick up kids on top of that. The good news the feeder program has seen a ton of growth the last 2-3 years after bottoming out a few years back.

Is it true that the total enrollment will be increasing over the next 5-7 years?

The numbers to get down to 6a are also dropping. Virtually everyone is losing kids.
This is true but over the next few years I think the student loses accelerate at WWS. They used to be the largest school in 7A now each year the slide further down the list of 7A schools.

Finally got a chance to see the Palatine freshman today - WOW!

First off between "A" and "B" squad there are indeed 72 players.

Just watched "A" team dismantle Maine South's "A" squad 52-21. The "A" team has scored over 200 pts in four games. "A" squad is 4-0 after this morning's game and "B" squad is 3-0 and was just starting game against Maine South when I left. I left to come home and watch NIU-Michigan game - probably should have stayed for the "B" game instead..

I saw a number of freshman games of the Oles, Grochowski, Balanganayi, et al squad - and these guys as freshman are much further along in their development.

On Fremd's side they started 0-3...not sure about today. However, they have 2 frosh starting on varsity right now (OLB and CB/WR) and are dressing several as well. Lots of talent on both sides of town!

B Bombers were up 19-7 in the 4th. Glad you finally got to see them. Not often Maine South loses 3/4 program games. Big things coming for the Pirates KP!

Thanks for the info! That JV game was frustrating otherwise it could have been 4 for 4. They had the ball inside Maine South's 10 yard line three times and came away with zero points. More concerned about Elter missing the second half as he's really been great recently. His only problem is being a year behind Dersnah, who after a rocky start has really started to blossom into the next Zach Oles/Ethan Olles/Matt Rossi type everyone expected.

The Freshman QB MC has from the Pioneers is almost Varsity ready, he’s really good. They have a TE/DL #88 that is Varsity ready. Luca De Rosa, younger brother of varsity RB Enzo, runs just like his brother. And a 6’5 300 pound tackle helps!
Uh oh - possibility that the Varsity losing streak against Caravan might last Marist until past 2024
