From Disabato's column in the Southtown "“We’re 0-2 in our history against them,” Zvonar said. “Round two games aren’t generally real tough. This is an exception. They’re a great team and program. That said, we’re still excited to go up there.”
Interesting comment.

Guys, that hit was a lifetime ago to the teens on this years team. Better stat is that Z is 0-2 against these guys and I'm sure this sticks in his craw. I believe that he will have them ready with all weapons available.

He's ready, hopefully the team will be as well.

Be sure to bring those 3” cleat replacements. The toupee is loose!

Interesting comment.

Silly comment. It might be accurate for Beast this year, but in general year in and year out?.... man I’m looking at the eight matchups in 8A in round 2 and Five or Six of them look to be total slugfests - just brutal and more in line with quarterfinal games

I think Z's intent was not to disrespect any opponent but to give GW an extra-special shout-out and respect - Round 2 is when it get's serious! I'm sure he knows that

Looking back at 7A Round 2 vs LWE from 2010 at Duchon.

Hiben has 319 yards receiving in Glenbard West win
https://football.dailyherald.com/article/20101106/sports/711079839/

"With the Griffins' defense loaded in the box to stop Hilltoppers tailback Nick Burrello and the rest of the volatile running game, Hiben and his 6-foot-4 frame found plenty of single coverage."

Interesting comment.

Considering LWE lost in the second round 4 years in row a few years back and one of those teams was undefeated and number 1 in the state I would say so. If you sssume a game is easy you get beat, you can afford to be arrogant in the regular season not in the playoffs.

Can't believe that was 8 years ago already - if i recall, that TE over the middle all day long was the death of the Griffins - I remember one play when we all (in the stands) knew where the ball was going on a crucial 3rd down play for GW and the Griffins D would/could not adjust- the better team did win that day - EDIT - he may have been a WR (not TE) but he lined up a lot in the slot if I recall - working the seams and the middle like a big TE

Any update on field conditions?
Honestly, the best I’ve seen this time of the year in the 30 years I can rember. Plenty of late summer rain and no games played on wet field have helped. Lush green grass. Shocking!

So often a year has started with a rainy Saturday and the field never recovers. This year, no rain games and only 4 home games helped.

That escalated quickly. You’re 42 point favorites Corey. Try and handle this period of glory with a modicum of class.

All in good fun, take it as respect for the Hitters. Great program and all kinds of respect for you guys. That said I hope East comes out blazing.
Go East!

Matt Bowen does a lot of national written stuff for ESPN. He also was an assistant at IC last year. Not sure if he still is.
Believe he is the DB coach at IC, have to imagine having him on staff has contributed to the amount of success they have had the last few years. Not sure what his goals are, family situation is, but he could be an interesting HC candidate in the west suburbs.

Folks these are blue bloods...,Maine South, Glenbard West,Loyola, Mt. Carmel, WWSouth, Edwardsville. It is not chump change.
I claim no special insight, but a 17-point spread seems about right to me. Something like 24 to 7.

Yeah I think that's the question...How good is LWE? I have some lingering doubts after the Brook loss and HF only putting 21 on Fremd (I've seen Fremd and felt like a high caliber HF team should have Maine South'ed'em). I'm not doubting that LWE is the best team in the state, but again how good?

My other measure of comparison is the NC defense giving up 38 in week 2. Fairly confident GW defensively is more skilled and disciplined as whole defensively. Rodgers at mike backer is super fast, takes great angles, and tackles well. Metz is a ball hawk in the DB and great on run support (he's a 6'3 195lb safety who Hetlet has molded into something reminiscent of Hayden Carlson--- @capnbillhitters Is that a fair thing to say?).

At any rate, no doubt I'd take GW at +40.
East QB did not hit his stride in Week #2 yet. He has improved significantly since then, but I think the East O-line is the best I have seen since I started going to games in 2002. But the Hitters will not lay down and make a game of it.

I hope you are a teacher at West or work in Glen Ellyn otherwise it is weird that you went to check out a field 3 times in a week. I could maybe understand if it had poured all week but it has barely rained.

Rain has nothing to do with it. Sprinkler systems do.

On the serious side, if you’re coming to GW Saturday, map yourself in via Main St off Roosevelt. Main will dump you straight into the village and towards the school. Parking at the train lots leaves only a two block walk down to the field.

Park Blvd at Roosevelt is a complete clusterf@6k as the road is being rebuilt while not officially closing the road. The detour will wind you into nothing but headaches so best to just stay on Roosevelt until you go North on Main.

I’ve watched cars get brutalized driving through that work zone and hope everyone can avoid.

Reminder/bump:

Want everyone to have a great visit to Glen Ellyn, and not get frustrated with a late arrival due to construction traffic.

Construction on Park and Roosevelt is a still a mess and with traffic pushed to Main St., slow going. Add extra time. Parking is free, signs will direct to Lot #7 Montclair lot (see rfb321 directions below).

Here is a map to help...parking in Lots #6 too. Good luck to all.

So if they turn on the sprinkler system what are you going to do not play the game? LWE fans keep saying how this is the greatest team ever if that’s the case they will win regardless of field conditions.

Obviously my attempt at sarcasm and poking fun at Captbillhitters missed for you. I would figure that someone with the name of Clownbaby would get it...

We all know anything is possible in this game - this will be a nail-biter and GBW is capable of an upset. I am reminded of when a 5-4 LWE team pulled off a very, very memorable upset of # 1 ranked Lockport in 2004 in Round 1 - after losing to them convincingly by 24 pts in the regular season. Lockport won 8A in back to back years in 2002 and 2003 and seemed destined for a 3-peat.
East held them to 6 points and ended up in the semi-finals that year - in my opinion, the '04 Griffin team was the catalyst to what has become LWE football! That is why I have remained a Griffin fan over the years!
Go East ! Good Luck LWE & GBW!

Do you have to pay to park in the train lots if your going to the football game?

No free on weekends. It’s best to avoid downtown GE, so these are my foolproof directions: Since Park Ave is closed, take rt. 38 west past Park to Main St. North/right on Main to Hill. East/right on Hill back past Park to Montclair. North/left on Montclair until it dead ends at the east end of the commuter lot. Drive about halfway down and park. Follow the crowd. It’s .4 of a mile walk. Plan on getting delayed by a frieght train. Reverse route to leave

or just keep it simple like myself and ride a bicycle from Chicago along the Prairie Path - I assume GBW has bike racks?!?!
