I didn't get to the game until the middle of the 2nd period at that time 14-0 Montini. Fenwick was bigger on both the offensive and defensive lines but Montini had the the quicker players. As I had hoped, Bu and Casey made needed changes. Better athletes played two ways. I thought Casey went to only two QBs and at a goal line I actually saw a Montini qb under center...or was that CN100 fake news? 5 appeared to get the ball more and then they countered off of him when friars started keying on him. LBs much improved. Secondary much improved.
For the size of fenwick o tackles I was surprised they didn't bring their big tight end 3 in to the In closer and run 2 over the tails of tackles and 3. Young qb for fenwick is biggest hole. Also,i was als surprised they didn't bring 3 in closer and throw more slant to him. Height mis match would and could have been like pitch and catch

The best player for Fenwick (O'Laughlin) kept Fenwick in the game early with one of the best diving catches I have ever seen at the HS level. Fenwick's Soph QB looked good when he ran the ball but had 3 interceptions which doomed Fenwick. Montini 's Jalen Slater had 4 or 5 sacks on the QB (out of at least 8 sacks) as we got a ton of pressure on him through out the game.
Had a chance to watch the 1st and 2nd quarters on the Cube and it was refreshing to see that the offensive coordinator stick with running the ball to start the game. #5 got two short run TDs and a lot of other carries early as well as Orlando gaining yards running the option forced Fenwick's defense to play up. When it appeared late in the second quarter, that Orlando was going to pass to #5 in the flat the entire defense came charging up and Orlando hit Scott West with a perfect pass on the run to make it 21-7 Montini at the half. Montini received the 2nd half kickoff and #24 ran it back 70 yards and then #5 and Orlando ran the next couple of plays with Orlando on a QB sneak getting in to make it 28-7. Game over.
I didn't see Norgle play at QB and Morrissey only played a few downs so maybe the coaches are settling on Orlando at QB. From what I have observed he has definitely improved in the passing game. Comments?
My comment is you owe mchslum and bronco man 4 gassers and 100 up downs for showing up late to the game.[/QUOTE
Had a neighborhood reunion which is on the first Friday after Labor day. Got there late last year and Fenwick was creaming Montini at the half. Different story this year and I am hoping we can do the same thing to BR who last year took our lunch money and rubbed our face in the dirt.
Wassup14, you hit the nail on the head with using the running game early to open the pass game and it worked out beautiful. Was a little concerned with the O line at times as they were in the backfield as some as the running back got the ball. Fenwick's D line was much bigger than Montini's, but at times the O line really opened some big holes so Fenwick must get some credit for some good defensive plays especially early on.
Orlando really looked solid running the ball as the defense was definitely keying on the running backs and Montini used that to their advantage. Still have some concerns over Montini's D line as they were much smaller than Fenwick's O line but as the game progressed they were in the backfield harassing the QB big time.
BRs going to be very tough. Hopefully we can hang close to them going into the 4th quarter and then anything can happen.
Wassup
I agree that BR is going to be tough. Last year they completely dominated us is every aspect of the game. The soph's last year played Br real close in a loss and those kids are now on varsity. BR lost a lot of key offensive players from last year so I think we have a chance to beat BR if we play play like we did against Fenwick.
