So what are the going to be the most contested weight classes this year that we’re looking forward to seeing this upcoming season? Any incoming freshman and or redshirt freshman going to start?

125 - Smith, or Gibson if he can get down
133 - Shawver
141 - Olivieri
149 - Clark
157 - Harer
165 - Barbosa, though Ford and White could be in the mix
174 - Pinto
184 - SCW
197 - Cotton or Casale
285 - Catka

I think the most interesting battles will be at 165 and 197. Barbosa and Ford aren’t too far apart, but I thought Barbosa was a tad better in limited action last year. Cotton probably has a better resume than Casale but Goodale has been singing Casale’s praises lately so I wonder if he has a chance to win the spot. Everything else we kind of know what we’re getting. 125 is going to be a sizable hole to fill, we have talent there but not sure if Smith is too small and Gibson is too big.

I don’t expect any true freshmen to start consistently. I think Magro would be the most likely though.

I'm curious, how does Nini do against Clark in the room?

2025-26 roster is now live. Roster is at 32. Everyone needs new pictures as they all have the Adidas logo.

I don't remember when Patrick Adams transferred in, but I guess he's the 125 backup replacing Wehner, as he wrestled 125 for 2 years at Buffalo and 1 of 2 yrs at Northwestern. Is Wehner done wrestling?

Today was a wonderful SKWC golf outing with Anthony Ashnault playing with his dad and making a great speech at lunch. The new AD Kelli made a great speech lauding the program and realizing we need additional funding to compete at the highest level.
Did she mention the team getting any revenue share money? That would be a huge asset to the program.

Wehner initially hit the transfer portal. Unsure if he landed elsewhere or will be back on the roster this Fall.

The freshmen are going to get their opportunities considering the five-date rule to preserve a redshirt. The competition in the room is going to be very interesting at those middle weights with the young bucks. We'll probably have a better idea by the time media day rolls around. Parkins and Magro are legit (as they all are). Parkins seems to be the guy they have their eye on to potentially make a splash early, if they let him loose.

Parkins beating Joey O at 41, and Magro beating Clark and Nini at 49? I'd be shocked if any of that happens. Does anyone know how they're doing against each other in the room?

Nini wrestled 65 kilos at worlds, is he gonna stay that low for season or go up to 149’s? He looked smaller than stanich and stanich is going 141’s this year right?

I don’t see Parkins beating Olivieri who was a blood round guy. Plus with Parkins having a RS available and Olivieri being a real good program guy with the Alvarez situation years ago makes me think it’s unlikely he isn’t the starter majority of the year.

Good question. Roster has him at 49 so who knows. I'd like to hear how he does against Joey O and Clark in the room.
I think Magro / Harer will be closer than people think.
How is Magro doing against Clark and Nini in the room? Who is winning those battles? You think he's close to beating them or is already?

I don’t see Nini beating the guys at 149, or 157. He’s a better freestyle wrestler than folkstyle.

Why do you think he's a better freestyle wrestler and can't beat Joey O or Clark? Have you seen them wrestle each other?

He went 10-7 wrestling primarily nobodies last year while Olivieri was wrestling to the blood round and Clark to the round of 16.

Even prior to Rutgers he was doing better internationally in freestyle tournaments than he was in high school competition. Not that he had a bad high school career or anything but he’s always struck me as someone who’s better in freestyle.

Whats the plan at 133? Wonder if the added weight for Joey O and Clark helps them out. I feel like adding muscle might be a good thing for both.

Those weights look completely wrong IMO.
Those are just the weight classes they weighed when they certified. They then have a descent plan to follow to get down. Shawver could've weighed 133.2 and would be listed at 141. Most drop 1 or 2 weight classes from what's listed on trackwrestling.

I believe they can only drop 2 weight classes from certified weight so that eliminates any chance of Gibson making 125

Anyone know why Nini hasn't wrestled yet? Is he hurt or just resting/recovering due to wrestling a bunch internationally? Anyone know how Villani does in the room against Clark, Nini, and Magro, and how Nini does against Clark and Magro?
