The new BIG has changed things

Was looking at Illinois recruiting this year and two of the top five recruits are going to USC. Their two top tight ends went to Bama and Mississippi. Illinois got one. That use to be top recruiting turf for the Hawks, we got Rairdon, heck of an OL, ranked #14. That is it.

That's what I was thinking. Illinois was fertile recruiting ground for Iowa. Notre Dame would come into the Chicago area and take who they wanted, Wisconsin recruited well in IL. The Illini did if they were winning, if losing not so well.

This was all before paying players. People closer to the Iowa program than me would know more, but it seems like our coaches still spend a lot of time in The Land of Lincoln.

Now it's all about the $$. Not what we're used to as Iowa fans recruiting the midwest. Plus the portal will become more and more important tool for roster changes.
