The only "real" penalty would have been vacation of the wins and the national title. Just like our fines, I am sure they have donors willing to step up and reimburse the university for those. They might see some effects from the limited visits/contacts with recruits, but they will find a work around.

And... doesn't Michigan have the ability to contest this ruling? As in, it is possible these sanctions could be reduced?
yes, everything is subject to appeal..also, lawsuits are an option if their appeals fail...

Nothing more than a slap on the wrist at a school with as much money as Michigan. There should have been reduction and scholarships and a bowl band, those are the things that really hurt. Vacating wins is nothing because people watch the games they saw who won And the school would still claim the national championship anyhow.

I think that might be the real end for the NCAA. I think it's over. It's BEEN over for awhile but I think this puts the nails in the coffin.
If I were a member institution I would never answer a phone call from the NCAA again. Worthless organization and I hope a bunch of universities force them to disband by walking away from membership. What a disgrace!

Tell us like we're 5...
What here is the death penalty that you said was coming?
Was the title vacated?
Do they have future post-season bans?
The title cost them money--they're content
I never said death penalty was coming.

This a level 2 investigation. Since you are 5, here goes:

The NCAA said in their COI letter: we know you cheated, we are ready to go to the penalty phase. Respond. Michigan lawyers did so, admitting infractions and acknowledging so in exchange for not facing a postseason ban.

The NCAA responded by fining the university 50k and the football program 10% of revenue in a fiscal year (minimum of $20M and could be as high as $35M);
- Further, Harbaugh received a 10-year ban on top of his 5-year show cause
- Moore received a 2-year show cause (he's effectively a lame duck, every cfb coach in the country are telling recruits UM will not renew him)
- The football program also received a 25% reduction in official visits and a reduction in communications during the next open period.

But more importantly, at level 2, you are on a 4-year probation. Any infractions and trust me there will be many submitted by people who hate UM, can result in further fines, scholarship reductions and yes, a postseason ban.

Michigan admitted they cheated. I'm satisfied plus they are on probation. OSU and PSU are drafting their communications to kids right now.

It's my understanding that Michigan is foregoing an appeal of the penalty phase.

it'll be even more humorous when cmu does get "the hammer"...stallions provided the ncaa with texts from the cmu staff, including shark humper, showing that they solicited his help against msu, and facilitated him being on the sideline..

It's a shame the old board is gone
They didn't vacate the title, no scholarship reductions and no post season ban.
Michigan is thrilled
If you're satisfied then you always knew nothing meaningful would happen which isn't what you said then or now
Win a title that's all that matters.

It's honestly okay to simply acknowledge the NCAA has no real power. The programs allow it to exist which is why they weren't going to do anything to Michigan

For over a year, countless people stated repeatedly that the hammer was going to fall. They'd be banned from TV, they'd vacate their title, they'd vacate wins, Morris would be forced out, they face a post season ban in the future, they'd be crushed with scholarship limits

All that happened was it cost them some cash which they couldn't care less about.

Michigan wins...yet again

They are a disgrace. Gloating in their cheating.

Considering OSU got penalized more for tattoo-gate, this is just so disgraceful on so many levels. But, not unexpected. Michigan will gladly pay this and Harbaugh will be joyously picking his nose in the NFL.

So like I said, nothing meaningful. Weren’t they already on probation? Would this put them on the mythical “double secret probation”?

I didn't say anything to you.

As for these penalties, that's the reality. There's no basis in their own bylaws for a vacated title. I happen to think this is going to hurt UM going forward.

It's not often you have a D1 program admit they cheated and agreed with a level 2 COI. I hate UM more than most but aside from a 2025 postseason ban this is the best you could get.

I think the gloating is about the constant attacks of people claiming they would basically no longer have a program were wrong. People have been saying their title would be vacated...it wasn't...if Penn State got this ruling I'd be celebrating too.

I mean...they won

Bawoomph!

The money means nothing.
The show cause nonsense means nothing.
The official visit money reduction means nothing.
It was a massive waste of time by the NCAA other than to tell every program to pay no attention to the rules.
That's not true at all.

Moore is dead man walking.

Less officials, less communication and a 4-year probation is dangerous.

Put Franklin in that situation and you would sing a different tune.

A $20-$35M hit hurts as well.

Moore is irrelevant. He’s a stop gap.
It was less money for officials that I saw not less official visits, which will quickly be made up by donors paying for unofficial visits.
$20-$35M can also be quickly recovered by donors.
These were toothless sanctions that will not deter one big time program from breaking whatever rules they feel like breaking.

This is literally nothing. Your hatred of them, which you acknowledge, is blinding you into believing this will hurt them when it will have almost no impact.

The title wasn't vacated. They won.
