Correct, but yours was so incompetent that he signed up coaches to long term extensions and then got screwed and had to pay out millions for not doing his job when he fired the gal. Hopefully for you, the new gal is a little better.

Anyone that says Pollard has not been great at ISU basically just hates Iowa State. ISU has had more success in more programs under Pollard than any AD before him. Rebuilt JTS, including bowling in the South end zone, and he refuses to suck up and bend the knee to EIU. Doing all this when the conference around him is pulling itself apart, and the money situation is shaky at best down the line. It's OK for people at EIU to disrespect ISU, but by God, ISU always must respect the Squawks, line of thinking gets old. Hell, you people would think your are Ohio State or Michigan, World Class university and the rest of it. You have an above average football, that gained a lot of wins by playing in the pillow soft B10 west. The only division that NEVER won the championship in nine tries. You laughed when the ISU wrestling coach went to Penn St, and Sanderson has been kicking your *** ever since then.

You are comparing ISU athletic program to the entire university over there in Iowa City. Your athletic program had to borrow money to get through Covid, and is $234 million in debt right now. Just bought out their BB coach that your former AD gave an extension too when it was not needed. EIU is not the flagship university, any more than ISU is. They both are fine university with different goals, one is a liberal arts university while the other is a A & M school. It was ranked ahead of two schools in the entire conference academically. A find school, just like ISU is, but not Michigan nor Northwestern.
Its claim to fame, joining the B10 a century ago and now because of it, getting plenty of media money, and a nice writers workshop. That is about it.

College football is very much becoming like the NFL.

In the NFL, who cares if the Chiefs win the AFC West; what matter is how they do in the playoffs.

Similarly, Oregon beat PSU for the B1G Championship yet Ohio State went on to not only destroy Oregon in the playoffs, but win the Natty.

I don't know where it is at, but I liked that mention of the Big Ten play in model. A BTCG (both going to CFP and playing for seeding) and then two other Big Ten games (BT seeds 3,4,5,6) that weekend with winners in CFP.

Clown. Your school plays in a crumbling conference with no media future, and whose athletic director spends more time whining on camera than managing a budget?

Yes, Iowa has debt. Because Iowa is building actual infrastructure to support a real, revenue-generating athletic program — one that sells out games, competes nationally, and brings in tens of millions more than ISU does every single year. Debt backed by revenue is called investment. Debt backed by hope and prayer? That’s Iowa State Athletics.

And this idea that Iowa isn't the flagship university? Please. You're comparing the University of Iowa — a Big Ten, AAU member, Tier 1 research university with a medical school, law school, and one of the most prestigious academic programs in the country — to a land-grant cow college, Congratulations. Bronze medal in the Mountain West, once the Big 12 folds.

But hey, your school has a really nice wind turbine and some decent agriculture extension offices. That’s gotta count for something, right?

BTW, ISC's regular season record against the historical P4 that are NOT conference members or tSUI is pathetic. Most of your paltry contests vs these schools was in bowl games. 90% of the regular season games you DID play were NOT IN AMES! What does that tell you?

The College Board, for example, defines flagship universities as the first to be established as well as the most research-intensive public universities.

Iowa was 'invited' to join the Western Conference (Big10) in 1899 due to the success of its football program and like-academic goals.
Iowa State College has never rec'd an invite in 125+ years. (You were 'mentioned' as a possible replacement in the early '50s for U of Chicago among several, but Michigan State got that spot). But Nebraska, Penn St, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Texas and ND.... have been invited.

Instead of being on this board you really should be mowing a few extra lawns, etc. to help Pollard out so the football players and coaches don't have to take pay cuts to keep the lights on. LOL.

I would be all for canning the conference championship games and have the playoff committee instead formulate some playoff playin games.

anything is spicier than what the currently are doing.

4 vs 5: winner advances to CFP
3 vs 6: winner advances to CFP

Clown U's 3 nonconference games: South Dakota, Iowa, at Arkansas State.

Can you imagine Iowa ever having to play at Arkansas State? How embarrassing.

Note, too, that Clown U only has 6 home games (game vs K-State is in Ireland). That can't help the bottom line. Barta said on several occasions that Iowa needed 7 home football games annually.

In addition, Clown U doesn't play in a power conference anymore and end up with a weak conference schedule as a result. That sure won't help selling out games.

But the North division won the title four times while it was around and the B10 West never crowed a champion. It also had 4 different teams representing the division during that run, while the opponent was OU or UT every year but two, when aTm made it. The B10 took the three best programs and placed them in the same division, the big 12 North division team was ranked higher 5 times out of the 12 going into the game. The division had a couple very poor years, but you act like it was every year.

Sanderson left for one simple reason, ISU could not and will never be able to provide the resources to wrestling that a school like Penn. State can and does. The money was just not there and never was going to be. But that did not stop a lot of Squawk fans from cheering and ripping on ISU for not retaining him. How has that worked out, at ISU Sanderson was always going to struggle without the resources he needed, now at Penn St, he has kicked your *** on a yearly basis.

Maybe your should stop talking about the good ol days and realize EIU is in a position where they are never going to get to the championship game, and the easy schedules of the past are history.

CC games are for $. Was a day when the team with the best overall conference record was the Champ. Novel idea. Course, that's tougher when you don't play a full round robin.

And now Matt Campbell? Oh no, he’s different, right? He’s loyal. He’s one of you. Until, of course, someone offers him real money, a real fanbase, and the kind of institutional support that doesn’t involve booster bake sales and wishful thinking.

Sanderson didn’t betray ISU. He just outgrew the sandbox. And Campbell? He’s just waiting for recess to end.

Is it interesting that his contract extension has such a small buyout. It's almost as if he's positioning himself to move on. If somebody makes him a good offer, he gone.

I remember not long ago when ISC made Iowa fans buy ISU Season tickets to be able to attend the fame in Ames.

You’re absolutely right—who knows with Iowa State? This is the same program that’s been outmuscled in its own backyard by Northern Iowa more than once. And let’s not forget the legendary near-collapse against the mighty academic and athletic juggernaut… Drake. At this point, ISU getting rolled by an FCS team isn’t an upset—it’s a tradition. They’ve been beaten by lesser opponents and pushed to the brink by teams even lesser than lesser. It's almost impressive,.
