Mount Airy vs Draughn Western 1A Finals

I can see Draughn slowing Mayberry down early but I think this game goes the way Mayberry and Ramseur did but I think Mayberry gets it going quicker in the 2nd half pulling away in the 3rd.
If not you can borrow my Van lolMan I'd really like to see this game. I do have family up there that might let me spend the night.

Mount Airy was short 4 players when they lost to East Surry 14-12. If not for missing their 2 extra points, it would have gone to OT and Mount Airy shut ES out in the 2nd half. Of course, ES shut MA out in the 1st half but MA had momentum in the 2nd half. If they played today MA would beat them by 14 or more. Their QB was going nowhere in the 2nd half.
Oh I'm sure they let me stay that's what I did the year Mitchell played East Surry where my cousins kids went.
But I'm going to pain management Wednesday and may end up having neck surgery so really not in the best of shape for the journey.
I could be wrong but I don’t see MA facing a better running back than what they saw in devonte brooks Friday night. The 1st half he was a man on the field. He ran the ball harder on those first few drives than anyone I’ve seen in a long time . Bears adjusted . Hate wasn’t a 100 percent . I will also be hard pressed to believe they see a better / bigger line than what they seen Friday night. Maybe Kidd or some one from eastern Randolph can chime in , 51 has several d1 offers with a few sec schools included. I know I heard Florida and Florida state. Seen video of him dunking a basketball- He’s 6-2 or 3 and goes 310. There’s another kid on that line with several offers as well . Someone correct me if I’m wrong. The Bears wore them down, that defense was savage in the 4th. Gallimore had a Luke wheeler type performance from the defensive side. I can’t buy that I’m gonna see something much better than brooks and the other kid, a line that’s bigger and more athletic and a qb that can run it and throw it better than Boaz . We can hype it all we want but I will have to see it to believe it. Maybe the real answer to this anomaly is that if the truth be told the SMC was down this year and Mitchell was what they thought they were gonna be? Just saying — someone had to be thinking it

Yeah I remember some of the kids being out of the game. It was a tight game. While I really like MA and ES both and think they're both great teams I think the plus 14 would've went to ES. If we say that MA is 14 points better than ES that's basically saying that they're also better than Monroe, Burns, Salisbury and possibly Reidsville. Oh well, we will never know but I know it's fun to think about. Wish football season lasted longer.
If you want to really see it. About 215 mark. Your four-star o lineman, four-star running back, and four star quarterback. All getting taken out. By one dude at one time. They haven't gotten that much better. But what do I know. That boy's daddy lets his hair get cut like that Lord have mercy.
That was game 1 of most of those kids sophomore year that wasn’t originally scheduled but it happened after a cancellation. That game was the driving forces behind our kids getting better because 1A was no joke. In 1 year they turned it around and now the team you beat up on is in the west final vs your team. I give respect where respect is due so yes your team was the better and more dominant team last fall. We won’t know until Friday who is better this fall. Have a blessed day

I hope your coaches are as dumb as you sound by preparing off last year’s performance, keep in mind last year was a mess due to Covid that game was a throw together game just so Draughn could play since so many games was being canceled at that time, but please prepare like it’s the same team y’all played last year. Maybe y’all are just like your big brother school North Surry lol
Was MAs 2nd game on a Sophmore loaded team as well. We know its going to be a hard game. Draughn got to this point bc they are good.
You are right it was a throw together game......MA was in excact same position. And MA had to travel hour and a half and play at your place on with days notice.
Mt.Airy will be the best team Draughn has played this year. I see Draughn being the 3rd best team Mt.Airy has played behind East Surry and Eastern Randolph. Seriously by watching the Andrews/Draughn game. I thought Andrews was undefeated but overrated. Everyone has injuries this time of year..and in 1a it's next one up or bust. Andrew's couldn't stop anything Draughn wanted to do when it mattered. Mt.Airy would've beaten Andrews as easily as Draughn did. The tail of the tape of this Match up is who can get the other team away from their gameplan and exploit it.

MA at home is a different animal......will be an atmosphere you perhaps haven't faced this season.
THis is this year none of that matters. This will be to go to the ship and will be a very tough game. Draughn is a darn good team. Won at THomasville and Andrews......you dont do that if you are not.
Yeah..True Buzz..but Forbush gave Thomasville all they wanted..you guys with half your team out would have beaten Bush by 30+.....let's remember that..I know everyone has every excuse in the world when a good team has a close game or loses a game they shouldn't have...I just think it's Mt.Airy's year to come out of the West..and they will do it in grand fashion at Home. This doesn't make Draughn a bad team. They're still very good.

Just notice everyone from MA is saying this is going to be a tough game to win! Draughn has our respect and attention.
If anyone from either side were to not take this game as serious competition, I think they'd be sorely mistaken. As many have said already, a team doesn't get this far if they're not a serious contender. I think we're all in for one heck of a ballgame Friday night.

My uncle, OB Stokes, was also city manager in Valdese in the sixties prior to a thirty year career in Sanford. I agree…Valdese is a great town.
Just my opinion:
At this point in the season there are only good teams left. Both teams have earned the right to compete in the west final and I'm damn proud of the year that Draughn has had as well as I'm happy for the MA team for being here as well. MA has been here before and they have a winning history and culture behind them. Draughn has made history for our county and they are much improved from last fall. I want to get to the game Friday night and soak all of it in because i hear that playing a game @ MA is a great experience. Good luck to both teams and congrats to both on making the West final.

I use to eat at the bbq place off the the exit alot. Worked many of games at Draughn in 3 sports and always enjoyed the atmosphere there. Beautiful school and great kids.
I thought I throw this one in. We’ve heard about Floyd’s barbershop on Andy Griffin show. Just few miles up the rd from Draughn is a place called Drexel barbershop. Famous for playing blue grass music in their shop. Public is invited to come in and listen to their music. Can get your hair cut but to my understanding most people go in just to listen to the music. Drexel barbershop has a FB page where you can see them playing bluegrass music.
We won’t know who represents the East until the game is played Friday night

On max preps draughn is #1 in 1A. I wasn’t expecting that
Can we just all agree that Draughn is the most improved team in many years … We (Polk) went up and played them last year and was up 30-0 and they started a running clock to get it over with ….. this year they are playing in the 5th round with a chance to play for a state title. Recruiting… transfers… or what ever they surly have turned around that program around and I’m happy for them. Draughn has been the whipping boys for many years …. Hell im happy for them and the community
if ifs and buts were candy and nuts we’d all have a merry Christmas. You don’t go to the games or watch film. How do you know what would happen.
