Andrews didn’t pull it off tonight against all county, but can we just appreciate how well they’ve done this year. A 200 kid school jut went 13-1. It hurts me that we had to play in the combined 1A division but it is what it is.
Classification should be determined by the size population a school gets to draw fromAndrews didn’t pull it off tonight against all county, but can we just appreciate how well they’ve done this year. I was talking about the combination of little 1A and big 1A.Classification should be determined by the size population a school gets to draw from
Yeah, you’re right. Draughn has 631 kids. They shouldn’t be playing a school with 210.So am I
A team that can draw from a county of 50,000 shouldn’t get to play against schools that can only draw from 20,000
Me and most Andrews fans have said all year that there is no reason for us to be playing in what was once the big 1A.I hate to say it fellas..but school size hasn't been mentioned until the loss. How many of yall picked against Andrews before the game..there was nothing about school size in the equation in who you guys thought would win. Yall are better than this.
Those were some rough unwatchable early round games when it was split into A/AA. Mercy.Me and most Andrews fans have said all year that there is no reason for us to be playing in what was once the big 1A.
East Surry only had 588 and put in 2A. That is where Draughn should have been with 630.Yeah, you’re right. Draughn has 631 kids. They shouldn’t be playing a school with 210.
Still done good...perhaps top 5 in state.Me and most Andrews fans have said all year that there is no reason for us to be playing in what was once the big 1A.
There’s more to it now than just enrollment numbers. Free and reduced lunch, Wachovia points standings, etc play a factor. It’s a formula.East Surry only had 588 and put in 2A. That is where Draughn should have been with 630.
But think about it, how many of those championships that Murphy and rville won and even that Cherokee one wouldn’t have been won if it wasn’t for the A/AAThose were some rough unwatchable early round games when it was split into A/AA. Mercy.
I don’t doubt that a bit, still don’t think it’s best for 1A though. If anything it’s needed more in 4A. Big difference in 4A schools in Charlotte and Greensboro than McDowell or South Caldwell. But think about it, how many of those championships that Murphy and rville won and even that Cherokee one wouldn’t have been won if it wasn’t for the A/AA
It’s a formula that should be stuck up Que's backside until she spits it out. There’s more to it now than just enrollment numbers. Free and reduced lunch, Wachovia points standings, etc play a factor. It’s a formula.
Well in fairness there has been the size discussion serval times this year seems to always come up and there was one about the Andrews - Draughn size difference on the are we all playing for runner up thread.I hate to say it fellas..but school size hasn't been mentioned until the loss. How many of yall picked against Andrews before the game..there was nothing about school size in the equation in who you guys thought would win. Yall are better than this...Andrews played great..had a great and memorable season...dont water it down..with excuses or comments that aren't relevant to this game.
School size is a constant issue. It is discussed yearly by multiple schools. I don’t think anyone is whining, it’s just an issue that needs to be resolved. Andrews doesn’t need excuses. They were 1 of the 8 best teams in the 1a this year… only 7 other teams can say that.Andrews had a great season but the whining about school size is not a good look. Draughn didn't cry last year when they were getting whipped. Please just let it go and be proud of what Andrews accomplished.
No one on here from Andrew's is putting the blame on school size. We are very use to playing schools bigger than us. Almost every team in our conference is twice our size or more. Congrats to the teams left in the playoffs. As far as draughn crying last year...not sure what they would have cried about. Your enrollment didn't change so you wasn't a small school up against the bigger ones.Andrews had a great season but the whining about school size is not a good look. Draughn didn't cry last year when they were getting whipped. Please just let it go and be proud of what Andrews accomplished.
I'm a fan of the formula. There's more to understanding how competitive a school is that just having x number of students. They are trying to take y and z into account as well to try and make things more competitive. Schools who have more financially disadvantaged students are going to have a more difficult time getting those kids to participate than schools where the student population comes from wealthier families. People are griping about it, but there were plenty of gripes about the way it used to be done, so you can't please everyone. There’s more to it now than just enrollment numbers. Free and reduced lunch, Wachovia points standings, etc play a factor. It’s a formula.
Whatever the excuses may be, the SMC is still the golden standard. That may piss people off but I can’t help it. If it bothers you, go take a look at the playoff brackets from 2000-2022. Look at the amount of teams the SMC put in the playoff every year. The amount of deep runs and losses to eventual state champs. Look at the amount of Rings won just in that time frame…. Pretty sure it’s 9. In 22 years, the SMC has won 9 titles. That’s just a small sample size as well.I'm a MA grad/fan and have nothing but respect for SMC schools but lots of excuses when they lose.
No you’re being a smart *** and stirring the pot and enjoying it. Better be careful, this could be you very soon. Stay in your laneI'm a MA grad/fan and have nothing but respect for SMC schools but lots of excuses when they lose.
I just love the irony of a Mt Airy alum saying someone else makes excuses when they lose. I'll say this and be done, and I'm a graduate of a NWC school and all my kids have graduated from a SMC school. The classification system in NC is unfair. The discrepancies in school size in each class is ridiculous. When you look at other states, the NCHSAA is the only one to not keep up with the times. And in fairness to the NCHSAA, it is the athletic directors who fail to support a change. No you’re being a smart *** and stirring the pot and enjoying it. Better be careful, this could be you very soon. Stay in your lane
