I think Montgomery Central is going to get some noise this season with Benjie Brown back on the sidelines along with Allen Brown. I remember many years ago that Thomasville had some great seasons when Benjie and Allen were running the show. One thing that has really impressed me with these two coaches over the years is there ability to make adjustments over the course of a game. What are your guys thoughts for Montgomery Central and the upcoming season?

Was told by NCHSAA source that they will be 3A or 3AA in the playoffs despite playing in a 2A league. To qualify for the playoffs, they must finish top 3 in the league "and/or" have a .500 or better record. In seeding they will be a 1 seed if they win the league, or a wild-card otherwise. Can't be a 2 or 3 seed.

We scrimmaged them last Monday along with Salisbury. Expected them to be as good as Salisbury if not better due to the coaching and merging.. and honestly I was quite disappointed by them. It will probably be a growing pains year unless their league's just down as a whole. I don't see them beating Mount Pleasant for sure, the rest maybe.

Their depth's not very good at either level they had 37 on varsity and barely 20 on JV. For a school that big it's not good at all. Their offense is really predictable and they are slow despite their size (good sized line.) D needs some work but they have potential.

They are gonna take some lickings in non conference but if they figure it out and grow through the year they may finish the season alright. I think they will be better in another year or two. The Browns have got to overcome the issues both schools had their last 2 or so years. If so they can get going.

To quote a former West Montgomery booster, who is way more in the know than I am... “They’ll be okay in time”.

I still think it is more taxing on a coach to drive an hour to and an hour from his school every single day, than people realize. That’s a lot of late nights that will become even later. To be out of the game for 5+ years will take some getting used to. These kids are moving from school to school for practice each week.

To play 2A is a bit of a reprieve. But not enough of one to outweigh the challenges. They’ll win some games, make the playoffs... HOWEVER, if they are indeed 3A for playoffs, that will be more challenging that 2AA in my opinion. They’d likely be in 2AA east, which is terribly weak. I’m not familiar with 3A east, but it would have to be tougher.

I think this team will continue to improve as the season goes along. The defense really impressed me tonight, they were lights out minus two big plays. Also, they have plenty of numbers. Very few if any of the players played both ways, which really showed late in the 4th against Thomasville. I would like to see the team really put some speed on the edges on offense, but they dominated the trenches and really won the game with a very physical attitude tonight.

Great performance by MC. They deserved to win. The Browns did what they do. Best athletes on defense. Two platoon. Take you to the fourth quarter and then ram it down your throat.
This game came down to two things. Numbers, primarily. T’ville dressed 25. And one really good coach on one sideline and two of the elite coaches in North Carolina on the other side.
You simply can’t play consistently well in 2A with numbers in the twenties.
Congratulations to the Browns. And as an aside, really good halftime fireworks show. The Ford place spent some bucks on that one.
I know they’ll be glad to get into the new school. First game at home and the concession folks weren’t prepared. The visitors’ bleachers are the most dangerous I’ve seen. But other than that, great hospitality.
Really felt weird seeing a Thomasville principal, head coach, defensive coordinator and stellar assistant wearing colors other than the red and black. I wish them the very best. Class folks.
