NCHSAA Adjusted Rankings

The NCHSAA is now doing an adjustment to the MAXPREPS Rankings. Way different rankings between the two. I have added a link to their site. If it doesn't work you can find it on their website in the football section. Why would they contract with MAXPREPS and make it the official site for standings and rankings, then do their own adjustments to the rankings?
Any comments and feelings on this?

Any idea how they come up with these adjustments? Some of them are out of left field in all classifications.

Good question, wonder who did their algorithm. According to the seeding process on their website, this is going to be the tool they use to determine where a team will be seeded in each classification.

Anything NCHSAA does is jacked up they have AA mixed with A it isn’t going to matter until the seedings come out that is all that matters.

With an algorithm it uses several factors to come up with the ranking. Even though you beat a team handily, strength of schedule, results against higher and lower ranked teams figure in also. So you could still be ranked below them.

I don't feel right about it at all...still a lot of ball left and a lot to be proven...I say no...at least not yet ..

How does the strength of schedule affect rankings?

"There is no direct mathematical link between the strength of schedule and the rating. However, typically teams with a strong strength of schedule will earn higher ratings than a team with a similar record but much weaker strength of schedule. However, teams with a weak strength of schedule can still be highly rated if they have key victories over highly rated opponents or by winning consistently over the course of the season. Ultimately, you will see a few teams with a weaker strength of schedule that earn their way among the top-ranked teams, although they may never actually play directly." --- from Maxpreps FAQ on rankings

Here is my question, it says here CLEARLY in the first sentence there is no mathematical link between SOS and the ratings, then it turns right around and says a stronger SOS will have higher ratings than a team with similar record with a weaker SOS. SOOOOO, which is it? Seems very contradictory but what else should we expect from the NCHSAA and MaxPreps?

I guess my whole question to this is "why is NCHSSA calling it an adjustment to the MAXPREP Rankings'. What factors could the NCHSAA use in the their algorithm that isn't already used in MAXPREPS algorithm that would produce such a big difference in the rankings? There is only one team in the top 25 that have the same ranking between the two. Puzzling ?????

Every year someone has problems with the rankings no matter how they do it.Do I think Pisgah should be ranked seventh ,no way.Maybe 14th like Max preps has us.
The only fair way to do the playoffs is like it was years ago.Conference champion goes to playoffs every one else goes home. But it's now a money deal and want change except by putting more teams in.

I believe the adjusted ranking do not take into account for margin of victory. A 1 point win is the same as a 100 point win regardless who it’s against. If Crest and CC both played an 0-9 team and Crest won by 70 and CC won by 1 it’s all the same in the rankings eyes, which I think is crazy. Same goes if they both played the same 9-0 team if Crest wins by 70 and CC by 1 it’s all the same.

Absolute joke for Erwin to be ahead of Reynolds in any capacity.

They have Crest ahead of ACR, Parkland, Sun Valley and Dudley!!!...that is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen...Crest defense is good but my Chargers will be lucky to get past the second round with that offense.

LOL what does anyone expect from the NCHSAA? Another joke
Don’t bite the hand that feeds you Catholic. Remember that same im joke of a an association allows your team to play in the public school league. Be grateful you don’t have to play all those other private schools for state title every year.

It’s a crying shame that the NCHSAA is so inept at playoff seeding. They can screw up a wet dream.

Sounds great until you look at it a bit closer.

Since the conferences champions will not fill out a bracket do you seed the runnersup by a power poll until you complete the bracket, have predetermined conferences guaranteed a second team, or give byes?

In the old days (pre subdividing) a conference was alloted spots in the playoffs. That conference with three 9-1 teams may get one slot while another conference would have a second place team make it with a 7-3 record.

The schools complained so much about the teams that would be 9-1 and finish second only to see a team they mauled finish 8-2 but win a conference title in an inferior conference. Or the three 9-1 teams that drew straws for the one slot.

I have pushed for the playoffs to be reduced but going to conference champions only and some second place teams will hurt football overall in the state.

I do not think Crest beating Sun Valley is a joke.

You are correct. That was put in place due complaints that teams were or would run up the score to improve their poll placement.

Personally, I think it should be capped at 21 points. Once the winning team hits that number no additional points are factored in. If a team goes for a score up by 14 or 17 that is not a kick in the face and people can accept it.

My question is why are you guys wasting your time with these rankings that looks like my 5 year old did and it isn’t going to matter when the seedings come out.

Your driving yourselves crazy. If your team wins the conf your in if your team comes in 2nd your in, if your team has a strong record in 3rd your could get it but who knows And that is about it everyone else is a toss up with fill in tune up games.

Yes some teams don’t belong there oh well that’s the name of the game half of these teams are AA and A they are all mixed up unless we are going back to the old way first place team plays in the playoffs.

There is an East and West stop giving the NCHSAA the time of day. They can barely get the seedings right after changing it a few times before they make it final. Come on guys you have more important thing to talk about mannnnn SMH. Oh I do have another question love the Crest Fans but it would be crazy if you got left out your conf is having a good year seems your already putting yourself in the Western Finals with CC. Just a thought

Allegedly, the only difference between NCHSAA and Maxpreps is that NCHSAA doesn't use margin of victory so that people don't run up the score. Of course, since no one really knows what the algorithm is....
