SMC teams please post your strength of schedule for the first four weeks:

Swain
Tuscola 2-1
Smoky Mountain 3-0
North Henderson 0-3
Franklin 3-1
Combined: 8-5

My guess would be that Rosman has had the toughest road this far but Swain maybe second strongest non conference schedule. But let’s find out.

I think my knights have played 2 winless teams and the university of Arden ( Christ School)
North Ga. 0-3
Enka. 0-3
Christ 3-1
Please correct me if needed.

Before Friday maxpreps has Murphy with a slight edge over Hayesville for toughest SOS in SMC.
Swain at 3rd with a slight edge over Cherokee.
Robbinsville should be in this group when maxpreps updates this week.

I was wrong about Hayesville.

Murphy is 1st.
Cherokee,Rosman,and swain almost identical.
Maxpreps only count games already played. Friday's games have not been counted yet.
Murphy's SOS will fall. Rosman SOS will climb. Swains will climb slightly. Cherokees will fall some.

Here it is per Maxpreps.
Lower number equals tougher schedule.

Murphy 9.6

Swain 17.7
Cherokee 18.0
Rosman 19.4

Hayesville 31.7
Andrew's 34.6
Robbinsville 35.2

Only posted this topic because I am curious of our strength of schedule/opponent win-loss. Why would there be a hidden reason behind it?
The Simmons sos will change after this week. For sure!
For example:
Murphy = North Georgia
Robbinsville = Christ School
Rosman = Mountain Heritage

No worries here about Swain. Hell we were 1-3 last season at this time. Same non conference schedule. Ended as SMC co champs. Team is improving.

Robbinsville has took a bunch of sophomores and juniors and a few seniors and beat a 3A team with 23 seniors. We beat a terrible North Georgia team and kept it close for a quarter and a half with the best team in WNC. They never ever quit. I honestly wouldn't have been suprised if we were 1-2 by now but we are 2-1..We are very young,I'll take it..I suspect once we add Christ School in and what we will be facing in 2 weeks , our strength of schedule will greatly increase.

Swain Dad,
Once again in all seriousness Sain was Swains entire offense against Franklin. He is having to carry them every week..He is a heck of a player but can he keep doing this through conference and playoffs? No doubt his body is taking a beating. Swain's coaches have got to find a way to open up the playbook..It just seems like an impossible task with one premier back and a quarter back that can't throw..I feel Swain may suprise either Cherokee , Robbinsville or Murphy..But not all of them..what are your thoughts?

In my opinion he has been a great playmaker. Seems to be very healthy and Swain hopes it stays that way. The roster says 160lbs and it is obvious that he put on some muscle to get his body ready for the season. Everyone here knows he trains year round for Football. Majority of his carries have been between the tackles this season. If Swain can open the playblook and get him outside in space then that will open things up more for him. If they can find some more options that would certainly help him and the team as well. Everyone keeps saying this is a young team. They just have a few holes and they are searching for the right players to fill those holes. Just like the Franklin game, three touchdowns being scored on a hole that is trying to be filled in the secondary. Once these holes are filled with the right players then Swain will have a complete team once they get more chemistry.

Maxpreps Rankings just updated..
Murphy took a hit on their SS- and dropped to 6 th in the state for some reason.
Robbinsville SS greatly improved..but dropped to 15th in the state which I don't agree with.
Updated strength and 1A State rank.
Murphy 16.5----6th
Cherokee 16.7----16th
Robbinsville 17.6---15 th
Swain 11---29th
Andrews 28---60th
Hayesville 29.1---51st
Rosman 12.5---53rd

Just some info..Christ School is ranked 43rd in the State ...Murphy is ranked 136th

Someone had already alluded to this point but I’ll reiterate it, NCHSSA needs to stop shelling out the rankings to Maxpreps. It is affecting our ability to schedule oppenents and those who are willing want cupcakes and not hard fought ball games.

Its also affecting sportmanship, some teams are running up the score to improve Maxpreps rankings. Im glad Murphy doesnt do that but the Franklin and Central Davidson games look a lot closer than they actually were because of the backups playing the last quarter.

I think Murphy does a great job of pulling their starters

i agree, Ive never seen coach run it up on anyone and theres a few times he wouldve been well within his rights to do so. I remember him telling a story about the only time he ever intentionally run it up on anyone and it was when he was at Edneyville, team was apparently very dirty that year and you wouldn't believe who the team was: NC School for the Deaf.

But you know I do think that they are times where you do need to make a point. Not often but if a team, like you said, is playing dirty you should whip their tales. Just depends on situation I guess

Smoky Mountain vs Swain this season. Ran up the score on us. Swain won’t forget that next season.

It's a shame we have to deal with these Maxpreps Rankings.. NCHSAA has to do something..they just don't have the balls to.

Murphy doesn't even play this week and fall like a rock..
Swain doesn't play and they jump up in the polls.
Robbinsville wins and they drop several spots.
Cherokee gets beat and they jump up in the polls..
Someone needs to be held accountable for this BS, doesn't seem like a big deal now but come playoffs it will be.

Murphy fell because Pisgah and Franklin lost. I may be wrong but I seriously doubt there are eight 1A teams better than Murphy right now like there formula says.
