Clover (2-0) is off to another good start for the 2017 season - having beaten the Gaston County teams most consistently over the years - with Ashbrook and Forestview being the most recent...They now face a upswing Hunter Huss squad (2-0) that looks pretty solid...Huss, who returns 15 starters from last year won their conference last year and gave state champion Shelby all they could handle in the third round of the NC playoffs...This game should have the makings of a pretty good contest and also an early season measuring stick before conference play starts. Any thoughts/predictions ?

The Huskies have a lot of fight in them. The Huskies overcame penalties and turnovers against a really good Clover team to give themselves a chance to win. The Huskies went for the win on the road on OT and just fail short. I think the chances are really good that Huss will run the table the rest of the way. They are the best balanced team of the teams in their conference by far. Crest has offensive liabilities and KM has defensive liabilities. Those liabilities will hurt both teams against Huss especially KM. While Crest may be able to make it a defensive game for awhile with the Huskies, Huss is going to absolutely light KM's D up. In my opinion the battle in the conference is for 2nd is between Crest and KM.

Real talk I became a Huss fan after we played them last year. Plus one of own coaches for them. They are a tough squad. Sucks they lost a close one.

Well sorry for hurting your feelings Mountie Slide or is that Mountie Gay Pride. KM just can't help themselves from doing KM things. KM has the pieces but as long as you continue to pencil in players into starting positions it will it will be what it is. KM has a good offense, you guys do a lot of things well on that side of the ball. On the other hand KM defense does not match up well anywhere on the field with the Huskie offense. You are in your feelings but Huss does a lot of things really well with really good athletes. Huss runs power, they run quick stuff, they throw passes to all six parts of the field, and the qb's can run so they will be tough for everyone but especially KM. KM defensive weaknesses will really be exposed big time against the Huskies. You can hide those weaknesses against weaker teams or one dimensional offensive teams but the chickens will come home to roost for you. It's not personal, I am only looking at it from a football matchup point of view. I break down all the teams so stop crying. I still think you are a mole planted by KM so get out of your feelings and fix those holes on your defense so you are not here making excuses AGAIN about your season.

Yes Tony Mauney's son is a big time prospect. His son is being recruited by major D1 programs. Huss doesn't have the fan base here like some of the other schools but those guys are really building something there. People on here basically laughed at me when I predicted the rise of Huss two years ago. Those guys got their kids to commit to off season and summer training which was something that Gardner struggled with. Those guys also have a sideline full of coaches who played college ball including some of the best to come out of Cleveland County in Tony Mauney, Kareem Marshall, and Julius Curry. Also their offense this year reminds me of the Shelby offense from two years ago with Borders, Wright, and the kid who came from ER. They can spread you out, attack each part of the field, and make guys have to make tackles in space against really good athletes. They are going to be a handful for everyone they play going forward.

do not particularly appreciate the name calling LOUDMOUTHD24 I was simply saying that games are played on the field not in one mind.I believe that HHUSS is a very good team but are they unbeatable we will see on the field of play.

84 Huss Grad and former player here....Having written the opening thread I just wanted to say that it is indeed a honor to once again see HH in the mix whether it be on field or conversation...I have learned based on the past 20 yrs to walk softly in expectations of the program and not stick my words out too doggone far..KM is a tough squad...I believe they will bring the kitchen sink with them when they come to Huss..I expect no less... I believe they have benefitted over the years having to play the Cleveland cty teams on regular basis just as Huss has had to receive tough love battling SP and Monroe based teams over the years, although I believe we could now match them well as evident by our wins last year...Wish they had scheduled us this year..smh...Shutdown24 is correct in the talent level and coaching now on west side...The Pride is back...no bandwagon here baby...I have sat in the 100 ppl home side section many a Friday nite....loving every minute of it...

Lol. I agree with you that games are played on the field. It's also a game of schemes and matchups in the three phases of the game plus the battle of turnovers. Some teams match up better with certain teams than other teams. Personnel wise at this point Huss has you outmatched its that simple not personal.

Happy for you guys, you deserve it. Huss has some good kids in their program. I love to see new coaches come into programs, take the talent there, and mold it into a winning product. I believe if Huss stays together and healthy they definitely have a shot at the small 3A title. That would be a great story. Good luck the rest of the way.

South Point fans will be on here and making excuses...but let's be honest...SP coaches are not stupid. They knew Huss was gonna be loaded this year, hell I don't even live in Gaston County and knew they would be loaded last year. They also knew lincolnton was going to be down, and forestview would be...well forestview...then you got Ashbrook with two former SP coaches so of course they'll play favorites there and schedule the Greenwave...I don't care if they did schedule clover...you can't tell me Huss didn't come calling first.

The South Point/Clover game is going to be really interesting. I do know that Huss wants to play SP and Gaston County schools always try to play each other normally.

I agree this game will not be without its own fireworks and drama... SP will be facing a lot tougher team than they've faced thus far...

91 you have no clue what country you live in so understanding the climate in Gaston County is beyond your pay grade. Did you get permission from Shelby to be over here jawing about crap only the foolish would drum up. Get back to hopscotch and jack rocks where you have experience.

I ran into Tony as Huss was taking the field at the West Meck Jamboree. I told him to have a good season. Orangeburg couldn't do anything with Huss that night. I noticed the familiar faces on the coaching staff from CC. They help work the LUV Center offseason program. They really push the kids to get better.

If Shelby finds out you'd over here embarrassing the county again you'll have more to worry about than the Huskies. If you crawl back over there quietly you might not get caught. Now scurry on.

Regardless of how this game ended, both teams won. That was a great, hard fought, game. It's a non conference that would've been nice to count for Huss, but I was happy for the show that was put on, despite the loss. Not too bad for a NC 3A playing a SC 5A on a Saturday night.
