Rocky Mount @ Havelock

Is this game still on the slate? Or did the NCHSAA forget to tell them where to meet.
I don't care this morning , but certainly expect to care by tomorrow morning.
Hope for a Rams win...but expect Rocky Mount will be a tough out. If the Rams smoke them, will certainly get the West winners attention.
Havelock! Won't be easy but Rams win. Then will go and bring 3A title back to the Coastal Conference where it belongs.
Havelock was up 17/10 in the 4th on the rocky mount 1 yard line he could have kicked the fg go up 20-10 instead goes for it on 4th and inches and turns it over rocky mount scores next play smh he gotta make better decisions than that
Jim Bob has an arrogance about him and tonight it got the better of him. Instead of trying to run the score up just ice the game with the field goal.
Exactly but still defense shouldn't give up a 99 yard passing td that's just ridiculous but it is what it is oh well
That's on JIm Bob too. Should have had a couple back there playing safe. They mentioned on the radio that they didn't have anyone playing back. Wild turn of events.
That's true if I was defense coach I would have ran a 3 3 5 in that situation only 30 seconds left but oh well I bet he will kick the Fg next time in that situation I still believe havelock gave the game away more than rocky mount won but good luck and congratulations rocky mount
In 2008 when we played Rocky Mount in the Eastern Finals they had the lead and the ball driving with less than 3 minutes to go and one of our kids stripped the big rb from RM of the ball. We drove the ball down and scored to win with just a few ticks left. Rocky Mount fans know how you feel right now.

It was a good game. Jim Bob is a heck of a coach that can't be denied but he lost this game tonight. Take your pick : not kicking the field goal or playing up close on defense with 28 seconds left in the game and give up the 99 yard td pass.

I don't know anything about Weddington but Rocky Mount and Havelock are 2 very good programs that went at it tonight. Not many teams are going to go into Havelock and come out with a win.
Not knowing the game or how it was playing out, I think going for it 4th and goal from the 1 is the right call everyday and twice on Sundays with less than a minute to play!
Look at it this way of you line up to kick and miss they get it on the 20, of you line up to kick and it gets blocked who knows what might happen, it could get ran back or even if not the ball could end up fielded anywhere!
But if you got for it 4th and goal from the 1 and you get it, it's over if you don't and they get it at the 1 with less than a min left you have to be able to stop a team from scoring from 99 yards in one play thats all there is to it!

Well in close games its hard to justify not taking the points. But once they turn the ball over you have to play safe and put 3 people back to make sure nothing gets by you. Havelock didn't and they paid for it. It would be easy as a rival to say a lot of things. Jim Bob don't make it easy to like him. But I've watched and met the qb Cooper for Havelock and I hate it for him. He played hard and so did the rest of the team. To have it end like this is tough.
It's not about taking points it's about risk vs reward the risk of something bad happening on a FG attempt as to giving the other team the ball on the 1 with 30 seconds left and needing a TD to tie is a no brainer!
Giving up a 99 yards TD in one play is inexcusable!
Take a crystal ball and give Jim Bob the ball back on the 1 with 38 seconds left. If you think he runs it again roll me some of what you are smoking. You can call it hindsight but I was thinking this as it happened. Take the points be happy with a win. That's not the Jim Bob way. Rocky Mount was able to turn the tables on him. If you could sit and talk to the RM coach this morning he would tell you it means more because of how they did it. I realize you are agreeing with me on the 99-1/2 yard td play but there were 2 huge mistakes. I've seen the Havelock kicker kick too many times. The field goal would have had way less pressure on it. That kid makes that kick. Too much pressure is ramped up in OT and eventually it happens to anyone. It took 3 OT' s . The kicker didn't lose this game. I hope he can realize that this morning.
Hate it for the kids... Jim Bob don't feel bad at all. His arrogance finally start to catch up to him. Trust he loses a couple more like that he will be out of there. The only reason he is still around is because they can't justify getting rid of him because he is winning. Got some friends in Havelock most of them can't stand him just as much as most other people.
Jim Bob made the right call to leave an opponent at the 1 yard line who had only 95 yards of total offense with 38 seconds on the clock. Too many bad things could happen with a FG attempt. Not having enough men back to assure that a 99 yd. completion would not happen was someone's fault. I just do not know whose. Great game for the fans but someone has to lose games like this. In this case, it was Havelock. As a side note, watching film of #31 who caught the TD. He only had that one offensive play in the game, but he is one heck of an athlete. Raiders need to take heed.
Notashelbyfan my strategy under those circumstances would have been consistent with yours. The decision to go for it was correct but not having the defense in some sort of prevent defense was clearly a poor decision.
I don't know a coach in the country that would have done anything differant!
Of he would have tried to kick it and got it blocked and ran back or gave them the ball on the 40 and they scored, or they miss it and give it to them at the 20 and they scored people would be saying he should have went for it!

This is the NCHSAA football playoffs. It is high school, not the NFL. That is a business, not a sport (and why its called the no fun league) Maybe you should learn the difference between business and sport. I would suggest Havelock's coach saw an opportunity to end the game, and probably figured if Havelock cant make inches, maybe they don't deserve to win. Wouldn't you say?
