Let's get some things straight. I guess I'm the resident fact checker around here now. By the way this site isn't a shell of it's former self. It may be less viewed recently but that isn't because of mods or Deanna - it's because of how quickly people are offended. This site doesn't exist if people don't express their concerns about their beloved HS football teams. When you regulate that too much....then it all goes away. This is fantasy land.

Yes Coondog- I said this was coming. It isn't b/c of S. Cramer opening either. EGs worse than usual team is feeling that issue right now. The reason SP is a bad team, and they are a bad team - is because they don't have a whole lot of talent, and what talent they do have (and had) wasn't positioned properly. The coaching staff gets a lot of credit when things are good. They've done an overall good job over the years with talent they had, but make no mistake about it they've been loaded with talent for years. Only small spots in history has Belmont NOT had plenty of talent (82-83, 85-86, 89-90, 95-97) on the field. Recently, SP has had pockets of unbelievable talent and didn't really do the job coaching that would result in state championships. 2011-2014 was a pocket of talent that was as good as any group ever to come through. Many were wasted. Some weren't. Make a FB position change in '13-14 and you definitely have one state champ. and maybe a closer run in another. ML and staff have to stop putting guards at fullback and the nepotism that has existed there for every coach that's had his kid there is just continuing. Usually the kid is a better player than what may or may not be playing currently. What everyone in the stadium knows though is if you are a triple option team, and you don't have the correct pieces starting where they should....these results will exist. Coonie part of knowing this coming was coming was very simply what they didn't accomplish at every level of football growing up. Those MS teams for 2-3 years were not good. Some groups/years have talent and some don't. 2016-2018 is just one of those pockets that belongs with 82, 85, 89 and 96 years and in those years the coaching was questioned as well. Nothing new. Coaching is always "better" when you're loaded with talent and guys who know how to play.

On a sidenote....here's another prediction for you that will come true.
SP won't change much on offense, and they will go undefeated the rest of conference season pretty easily. Not because they're good, not because of coaching, not because of any adjustment. Because everyone in GACO football is almost as bad as they are outside of HHs group this year. So, if HH slips up (likely), SP could be in some contention to still win the worst conference in the state.

You don't have to name them, but what # was the FB in 2013-14

They had a guy that started for two years.... and I meant to say 2014-15. He was a TE anywhere else in the country...I think #34. He's out of HS now -graduated. If we replace him with a guy who can stay on his feet, and has a little bit of speed and/or power and the offense is fire in 14-15. The line was solid 2 years ago, and really good last year. #44 was a no brainer, but also could've tried #9, #25, #20, #21 during those years b/c all had that combo you need at the position. Before this guy was made to be fullback, they tried to make a career (from age 5 to 18) offensive tackle a FB but it just wasn't even close.

Coondog, back slowly away from the computer. South Point football is about as relevant on the grand scale of football as the crap I got on my shoe when I went out to feed my dog this morning. There are only a handful of people I know that even know where Belmont is, and a few more that know South Pointe in SC is, but the 1952 Cigar Bowl Championship trophy that your old high school won is about as entertaining as the faithful 30 fans that show up to your games. My advice would be for you to get a hobby and quit criticizing coaches that are doing the best they can.

I think a lot of people's hobby in Belmont is HS football. Right or wrong...and that's why you see passion there. Though SP attendance is wayyyy down from what it used to be, we always have more, and in most cases twice as many, as every team we play. That includes the "big programs" like Crest, Shelby, Asheville, W. Rowan, etc.

Coondog- it's OK to have your opinions. That IS what this forum is about. A lot of people see the same things you are saying. It could be worse; we could be somewhere like EG,St. Stephens or Polk County where nobody cares anything about football at the HS level, and no commitment to being continually "good" is sought after.

I have no problem with people who are angry at the performance with their local team, I just get uptight when someone criticizes coaches (making a 1500 supplement) and runs down the coaching staff. If it is that big of a deal, go to the head coach and see if you can help coach the team.

I understand. Although...I don't care what coaches/teachers make. That's their chosen profession. If they want to make more, go do something else....and don't throw up what they make. They do it because they either love it, or didn't want to have a normal job where you get 2-3 weeks vacation max per year for the majority of your life. Life works out pretty great for teachers despite their moanings.
Most HS coaches I see have career .500 records or worse. So, being at a place where everything is set up for you to be above that from jump (Belmont) is a pretty nice place to be.
Coondog or anybody else doesn't need to try to help coach. They pay their money so they can watch. So in essence they are helping the team. The booster club, the fans that pay to watch all contribute. A lot gets invested from early ages in Belmont toward football - Time, energy, health even sometimes; to dismiss those expectations because you think HS football coaches should make more $ is unrealistic.

I think what wham22 is saying is not that he is complaining about the money coaches make, he is saying that they are devoting a lot of their time (often at their own family's expense) to the sport and to the players themselves. One bad season or game shouldn't have fans calling for the coaches head. On a side note, I have a parent that was a teacher and it's a big misconception that they have a sweet deal and get their summers off. They are contracted employees and they are contracted each year for 10 months. They don't get paid in the summer. They have to save up throughout the year, or take less each month to have the state set some aside for the summer months.

$48,000 a year after seven years with summers off is no bad deal. Especially when your degree is teaching dodge ball. Engineers make that with no school holidays off, nor summers, and no 192 work days. Its not bad.

I think your right, engineers make less than $50000 and don't get Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day, Easter, Memorial Day, or 4th of July off. Those guys have it way worse than teachers!
By the way, after 7 years a teacher salary is $38,500. But, what teachers make isn't the point of 22Wham's post. He was simply stating that the coaches at SP devote summers, holidays and many, many nights to their team for what would amount to $2 an hour, not because they need the money, but for love of the game and their players. That should be commended not ridiculed because a few people don't like who the quarterback is. Who by the way is a 16-17 year old kid, not an adult pro quarterback. It really is a shame that so many Belmont residents derive their self esteem from how well their high school football team does. Thats a lot of pressure on kids that just want to play because they love football. Imagine if they got on forums and complained about you and others performed your job, and called for you and your bosses to be fired? It's really pathetic. It's fine to talk about the outlook of the team, but calling out players and coaches individually because your self esteem is hurt?

Stinger 99....Go Huss? 20-5-1...and that one tie yall got yall's a## beat up and down the field too. Luck was on your side that night. Cherish those 5 wins, because it COULD be another decade before you see another one vs. SP.
Baseball season never leaves Belmont- it is from age 5 up to 18 all the time if you haven't figured that out yet. That's why the HS program churns out consistent winners. Can't even speak about HH baseball. It'd be like beating up a cripple.
Not sure why you mention those two boys, both were fine players. But, SP didn't go anywhere with them leading the teams, so we didn't live on any one player ever.
SP won't lose to FV in football.

The people that have mentioned a name of coach or alluded to a positional player....have every right to do so. This site wouldn't exist otherwise. So, the fact that you come on here lets us all know that you are part of it. Claiming to be holier than thou, doesn't mean you are. You sound like you are probably a teacher/coach. The 'love of the game' is why you do what you do if you are in fact a coach. I'd guess 90% of all HS football coaches that teach didn't decide to go into education to teach. So, save that BS story for someone else. Things are set up in Belmont the way they are. There are expectations. There is pressure on the kids. Results also show it has worked. Keep doing things the way HH has always done them. We enjoy those 77% win percentages over you in football and 99% win percentages over you in baseball. Maybe yall need to put more pressure on your kids to show up to practice on time, and regularly?

First, I never claimed that Huss has a winning baseball program, but please don't get me started on basketball. We have lost more state playoff games than SP has ever even been in, much less our wins. Also, since you are in the habit of calling out 16-17 year old kids and feel you have the right, why don't you go voice your concerns of "daddy ball" to Coach Lee's face. The truth is you wouldn't. You hide behind your computer in your mom's basement and get mad when someone dares to say SP isn't the best football team in NC. I hope you have a great rest of the season and a wonderful, peaceful day......lord knows your self esteem needs it.

LOL- I think you have me confused with others on here. I don't call out teenagers...but I do defend the right of others to do it. I don't hide any G D where and Scott Lee isn't intimidating anybody from Belmont...certainly not me. He may have at FV or EG where there are weaker brands of people. Makes me wonder why you bring up his name...when nobody else has. There are other dads with kids on the team too. You put a lot of words in people's mouths. So, I or "we" get mad when someone says SP isn' t the best football team? You are an idiot obviously. Hunter Huss still sucks, and will continue to until the end of time. This happens when people like you support or run things in these type places.

First, you are right. There are other people with kids on the team, but they don't play quarterback which is the position you all have been primarily questioning. Second, how does it feel to get beat by a team that "still sucks"? What does that say about you all? People from Belmont need to "have thicker skin" like you all say the coaches need. Third, you say Belmont people are a "tougher brand" yet you all hide behind a computer and put teenagers down. Since you are so "tough" please feel free to bring it on over to Gastonia after the next Huss game and me and the fellas would be glad to discuss this face to face and workout any differences we may have, old school style. Woof Woof, Gooooo Huskies, and the only good thing about Belmont is the exit to leave..........the whole place smells like pig guts.
