I’m just not feeling it with Joey mainly because I thought he’d improve at least a little. I haven’t seen it. Serious question: am I missing something?
Coach K would say yes you are missing something. He gave Baker credit in press conference for his good minutes in the game. Sure he missed 3 Fts but Duke got offensive board and put back on 1 miss. No turnovers, 2 boards, 1 assist and 6 points is not bad for your 8th man. I think your attention needs to be on getting Moore back to playing well . Moore is the key to Duke getting back to Final Four.

I'm with you ACC. In his 4th year to expect Joey to be a 50% 3pt sharp shooter and suddenly become a lockdown defender is unrealistic. Joey plays his role. He plays hard and does things other than score. He's always enthusiastic on the bench and in huddles.

I also agree it would be ideal to have Moore in his early season form. He's been off the past three games. But he's a competitor and a leader. I have faith he will be back to his Gonzaga form soon! I think we need him to excel to be a final 4 team.

for 90% of the game yesterday we looked like we were back to pre-covid break form...so very encouraging. I also watched some other games yesterday and comparing them to us...we are in good shape to make a deep run( Baylor game was one, USC another)...we still have one heralded freshman to yet make any significant appearance correct? I hope that doesn't end in a transfer.

My attention is on Joeys poor defense, mainly. And Moore is fine - he’s leading the team and deferring to guys who are more natural scorers.

No one expected him to be a lockdown defender; he’s not even an average defender. After 4 years to boot.

I also don’t think anyone expects a 50% shooter from the field, but problem is that’s what Joey has been known for, so many focus on it.

You being a drunk and tagging me every game is a bit concerning. Seems as though you may need some assistance. You doing okay? If you need help please dm me.
I just love humiliating you further 😜

“no real point guard” yet they are 14-2.

Can we just talk about how Mark Williams dominated everybody in the paint? 8 dunks, 8 blocks (thought he was gonna get the triple double) 6 offensive boards, and ZERO fouls. It’s gonna take a lot for this team to lose when our starting frontcourt has 40-19-6-9.
Bigs were amazing!!! We had a good week, and are showing life of the squad earlier this year!!! Looking like a Final Four team, but cannot let missed fts derail our journey! #Duke4Life

The free throw shooting may sound like nitpicking but it could be our undoing in an Elite Eight type game. We need to tighten that up. Esp. against a Baylor or an Auburn. A great week for our guys, 2 very nice wins. FSU should be a dogfight. We can win, but we have to play with the focus we played with this week. North Carolina is starting to look good, should be a good game when we play them.

"Dogfight" is right, and it will be rockin' at their place. Another Super Bowl for a Duke opponent....Yes UNC looking good, need to keep them off 3pt line. However I am focused on a tough FSU game right now. OFC

I can agree on the driving point. He’s definitely attacking more.

Defense? He’s bad - like a step or two slow every time bad. He tries to make up with it with hustle which I applaud. Iirc, after one of the two standstill shots he made yesterday he was roasted defensively on the other end for the same by an nc state player. That wasn’t the only time he was roasted either.

Lastly, specialist? At what? Shooting? If that’s his specialty, then he’s weak in my book. Goldwire could at least D up and even run the team at some points.

To be clear I’m not hating on the kid, he’s just not very good (especially defensively) and sometimes he’s the first player off of the bench. That’s concerning to me. Is he a good kid who works hard? Absolutely from what I see, I just don’t see him as a high level D1 bball player....I’ll probably still be frustrated with him but I’m not going to say he “sucks” moving forward. I just don’t feel it with him on this team. Hopefully he can prove the doubters like me wrong lol.
Joey is not a lockdown defender by any means. I was referring to how I have noticed this season he has gotten a lot more steals and deflections compared to other seasons. He is not a great defender, but he has improved in that area even if it’s not a significant improvement.

No one will have to worry about Baker after this season. I think as much as some get on him about his play and saying he’s not that good he’s ready for a fresh start just like Goldwire.
Duke hasn’t really developed any bench since the 2015 team with Grayson, Matt and Marshall.
for all the ,” it’s nots K’s fault and he’s the goat!” K recruited Baker, let him sign his NLI and let him burn his redshirt. For those of you who say he’s not that good K sure thought he was good enough,

I think Joey will move on but not because of what we say on here. He has gotten sporadic minutes his Duke career. He could go to a place like Rhode Island and start.

That’s what I’m saying. Everyone who don’t think he does much won’t have to worry after this season. I think he will look at the success Goldwire is having and move on .

I’m serious about the drinking thing fyi.

I won’t argue with you much more on here because I’m sure other posters don’t appreciate it much. I love Duke basketball just as you do. We can just agree to disagree.

Ahh, gotcha, fair point indeed. Ultimately I’m pulling for Joey, let’s hope he shuts people like me up.

And O’Connell, but Alex may be more athletic and offensively talented

Oh we disagree, but I’ve exposed a good bit of your idiocy. None of us are perfect, in fact I’m far from it. I just know when I’m wrong.

Remember, 14-2 with “no true PG”. I’ll take it!

Keep doing you bud. My DM’s are open.

14-2 with Keels running the pt 90% of the time….something we finally agree on, I’ll take it as well!

Don’t really know about O’Connell . Baker try’s but I think he has really got lost in the rotation the last four years. He doesn’t handle the ball well enough to be a sg/sf and isn’t athletic enough at 6’7” to really hold athletic sf’s . He does put his all into it and hustles . I think he comes on strong in the tourneys .
