Every ranking is a token ranking, save the one released after the national title game. In this sport, we get to settle things on the court, so rankings are pointless. We've simply spent the better part of a century with a hugely popular sport, college football, that placed an incredible value on rankings. Even today, with a college fb playoff, the rankings are very important because it determines who gets into the very limited playoff. The rankings are nice, but ultimately meaningless.
