Carter over Bagley??? One writer's analysis-

Bags learning to D as well as Carter is way more likely to happen than Carter "learning" how to put the ball in the hole like Bagley. Just saying.
Comparing the two, Bagley definitely is more athletic and cool. Will he learn to play ok defense.? Will his teammates really benefit from playing with him, or will he put up good numbers on weak teams?
The truly good players make their teams better. We will find out if he is that type of player.

Carter is better than Bagley defensively and Bagley is better than Carter offensively!
Right now I think Carter is no doubt physically stronger than "Bags" and less likely to get pushed around or outmuscled at the next level. No question he's also better defensively. Obviously Bags is more offensively explosive, yet Carter really hasnt had the chance to be showcased yet. He's been in MB's shadow to this point, and may thrive in a different system scoring wise.

I think that Carter will have a very, very solid career. I don't see any glaring weaknesses. I think his floor is higher than Bagley's, but his ceiling is not as high as Bagley's. Bagley's D lowers his "floor". I could see him getting exposed on D and a coach having to sit him some down the stretch... I think Bagley's defense must show great improvement in contesting shots. (he can come over from the weakside and block a shot very well, but is not good at contesting his man's shot)
Bagley has two weaknesses he needs to tidy up, defense and shooting (FT% and consistency and range on his perimeter shot). He has a high motor, so I think his defense can be much improved. In Basketball and especially the NBA, it is not only can you score... It is can you stop your guy more often than he can stop you...

This all being said I sure hope he goes to Sacramento and combines with Giles. I want so bad for Giles to stay healthy and I want Bagley to answer his critics (including my question mars above)... I always pull for the Duke kids to not only make it but to succeed at the next level and life.
I think this is pretty fair. Barring injuries, I don't see a scenario where both aren't very successful in the NBA for at least a decade.
Bagley has a better chance to be a star....but Carter's game is really harnessed, too, for a 19-year-old.
I think he's flying under the radar, as well. I'm not sure he has the ceiling of a Wendell or Marvin, but I do think he's going to play a long time in the NBA. He's a great shooter and above-average defender....who will only get better. Physically-speaking, he's probably the most 'NBA-ready' of the five guys in the draft.
Bagley can score and rebound...he can do it at a high lvl and since those are box score stats everyone loves...most will see him as a success no matter what.

Trent would need to develop his three point shot into something he can get on his own instead of just catch and shoot. He'll have a job for a long time as a 3 and D guy, but to the best of this bunch, he either needs to develop into an elite scorer (not just shooter) or the other 3 to all not be as good as they can be.
Also, Bag's scoring and rebounding were due in large part to physical prowess. He's incredibly fast WRT leaping, and he's very quick. But he won't have such a large gap wrt athleticism relative to NBA bigs. He'll score and rebound well in the NBA, but it is less certain that he'll do so at an "elite" level. 20 and 10 is great, but 15 and 7 is pedestrian. His failures at the FT line exacerbate these worries. He could leave 3+ ppg on the table by missing FTs. If he gets up to 70% from the FT line, and works on blocking out, he starts moving into all star level numbers on O and the Boards.

D would still be a problem, but O would be OK.
And I'm not sure he's quick enough to be a top tier defender. I think he'll be capable on D, which is enough for a decade long career, but, again, I'm not sure he'll rise to the level of "near elite" on D.
