The author conveniently leaves out the fact that Trevon was never coming back anyway. If he wanted to make this case, he should have highlighted Trent or Frank Jackson from last year.
As far as the recruiting over part, I think Coach K changed his OAD philosophy after the 15 team. Before that (and in the year right after) we only seemed to go really hard after 1 OAD per class. We missed on Wall, but then got Kyrie, River, Jabari, and Ingram in 16. When the 15 team came in, Okafor was the only one expected to be OAD. Winslow was a possibility, but everyone thought we would get multiple years out of Tyus and Grayson. I think that team showed K 2 things. 1. He could win with multiple freshmen, and 2. If we had the success we hoped for, those freshmen would never be sophomores. He couldn't change the 16 cycle at that point so we still just had the single OAD, but then he went all in. The incoming class will now be his 3rd straight that's expected to have 3+ OADs.
So while guys like Jackson and Trent may have been "recruited over," I think K made the decision it's better to have too many guys than get caught without enough.
