Man if this Donte DiVincenzo twitter story isn’t the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. When are people gonna wake up? There are no “angels” among us. Especially not as a damn teenager. Can’t believe they are even attempting to tear him down with this dumb crap after he just had a performance for the ages in the championship. SMH

Not surprising. The PC police want to sacrifice anyone who doesn’t speak to their liking.

Sorry if I don’t give a crap about a teenager quoting rap lyrics. These fake outraged nuts can spare me the performance.

I also don’t care one iota if he offended someone in the LGBTQ.

These people will be upset about something new in five minutes.

I kind of disagree. If he tweeted any of that stuff then he's the one with the issues...not the media.

In high school? I’d like to see how everyone would’ve stacked up in high school if the media fixated on everything. Yeah, imagine if the ones offended were held to the same standard.

I agree he is ultimately in the wrong. But to have to answer that stuff after THAT game is ridiculous. How the hell was his tweets from years ago all of a sudden relevant? Sleazy move by the media.

We all did stupid sh*t in high school. I get that. But it's different for the Average Joe....no one cares about us. We don't have eyes watching our every move.

When is the appropriate time? That would be my response. I mean, obviously, he's a newfound celebrity. Most casual college basketball fans didn't know who he was 24 hours ago. I'm sure if the story had a more positive message people wouldn't be complaining about that. They'd want to learn more about him.

Yeah DukieJay, I agree that if it was a positive story people would have no problem with it. But if it’s a potentially negative story, we all owe one another the courtesy and respect to proceed with caution.

The PC police will tear anyone down who does not walk the liberal line. I for one could not care less what he said in HS about any particular group. People say stuff, they change, let it go. The only thing the media loves more than building someone up, is tearing them down.

Yeah this was a prime example of loving to tear somebody down. The guy had an amazing performance in the Championship game. I stood up after he hit that 3 with about 8 minutes to go in the game to put them up 18. It was just a riveting performance.
And then they want to come with the weakest **** ever about some tweets as a 14 year old. They ask him about this right after the game. People are ridiculous.

I think it’s being blown way out of proportion. He was a 14 year old teenager at the time when he posted that tweet and he was simply quoting song lyrics from a rap artist I doubt that he meant anything negative by it. If he were a black player then I doubt that it would’ve even been brought up but because he’s a white player that’s why it was brought up because the media loves to stir up controversy.

Yep, definitely no reason a basketball player should be criticized for quoting a lyric about basketball.

Yes, the media likes to stir things up. Duh. If nobody noticed, it ain't really media. That said, as consumers of media, we all have a responsibility too. If we reward good news/media, we will get good media. As for this specific example, it is a good opportunity for our youth, who have an unfortunate burden of needing to maturely sensor themselves in a manner previous generations never had to, to realize the downside to simple social media posts. Just labeling it Liberal nonsense or PC garbage doesn't help anyone.

My main issue is the timing of this story. The guy just put on an epic performance to win the National Championship. Some tweets he did as a kid years ago, do not warrant being brought up right after that game.

Such a non-story. Something he did when he was not even in high school but when he was in middle school. God help me if people heard all the things I said....

in middle school.

Timing was poor, probably not fare. But that should be obvious to the viewer. He will have plenty of time and chances to explain. I think everyone needs to be a little more patient when it comes to "digesting the news and not looking to immediately reinforce predetermined views.

All I saw is that he tweeted some rap lyrics with the n-word in it when he was in high school. Am I missing something worse? It didn't seem to be directed at anyone. If that's all it was, then why does anyone care about that? Yeah, it's insensitive, but he was like 13 years old. I'm sure he didn't mean anything by that.

Just because the media reports something it doesn't mean that most people care. The media has to report things because that is their job. 9 out of 10 people of all races would not care one bit. Complete non story.

I watched Divincenzo play as a Freshman last year and I was impressed with his confidence, motor, and athleticism. I watched 4-5 Villanova games this season before watching them in the tournament. I told my buddy who went to the Final 4 with me on Saturday morning, I had a feeling Divincenzo was going to win the Final 4 MVP. We sat with the Nova crowd on Monday night and I was ecstatic to see the performance he put on. The kid plays hard on both ends of the floor. After the river walk parade on Monday night, my friends and I got a picture with Divincenzo in the lobby. He is my favorite non-Duke present day college basketball player. This was my fourth straight Final 4 attending and I have never had any issues with Villanova’s fans. They are respectful and enjoy talking basketball. I have no issues pulling for Nova in the tournament (as long as they are not playing against Duke). It’s a Class basketball program with a Class Act Coach and Fanbase.
