We need someone to keep our offense flowing. When shots aren’t falling teams don’t have to respect our perimeter and can sag in and double and triple our bigs. What Duval brings is the ability to break down a defense and create open looks and easy buckets. Without it we become slow predictable and easy to defend.

We can bash Carter and Bagley all we want but if they don’t have room to operate even their god given abilities won’t be enough. We need a few different things for our offense to get back to it’s early season form now that teams are adjusting; 1. Duval to not only get in the lane but to make the right pass, 2. Our shooters to make open looks, 3. Our bigs to play big, strong, with a nasty mentality. We execute those 3 things lights out for opponents.

It was his biggest game on the biggest stage. He entered the second half at the 14 minute mark. He had six assists: 3 to Bagley on two dribble penetrations and one lob and 3 on three pointers to Carter, Trent and Allen. He made a 3 pointer and a basket driving the lane, he had no turnovers and played good D. It's just one game but maybe he's finally ready.

I like Duval. I think like all freshman you have to accept some of the learning curve and adjustments to the college game. Yes he makes some mistakes, but he has kept us in some games and really facilitated on Saturday which was what I was most excited about when he picked Duke.

Put me in the group that says we need Duval running point for extended periods with Allen at the 2 coming off screens like JJ did his junion and senior years.

I did notice that he really shined on Saturday later in the second half when we made some space for him to drive and dish. At least twice, and I think more he was at the top of the key and there was space behind his defender instead of another Duke player with a defender on him. In both cases he showed great court vision. He took his defender off the dribble, got into space and and made a quick dish for an easy put in by Bagley/Carter/Bolden. I wonder (hoping) if we might see more spacing like that for him to attack?? That is when he's at his best IMHO.

I hope so. I just know we can’t have him standing on the wing so people can cheat off of him. They won’t cheat off of him when he’s handling the ball because that makes for easy passes to whomever he wants to pass to. But if they do want to sag then we can set a pick on his man and then he’s pretty much one on one with a big who he will blow by. If he misses then the roll guy when have a guard trying to stop him from rebounding the miss
