He was the catalyst for duke tonight. Bagley will get the credit, but he was the engine. Grats on the win. Heels choked big time.

Time to drink heavily.

It was a great game. Your guys dominated us for a long time. You're playing some good basketball.

right? many fans won't call allen out for his awful play but when duval makes one mistake he's the worst thing ever. Duval saved us tonight. Allen has still got to take the reins and lead this team.

Duval plays like this and Duke will be very hard to beat.
I give him a lot of credit for accepting his benching and coming in and playing great.
He and Bagley get the game ball. I still want him to shoot free throws better.

we were terrible without Duval. We are just too easy to guard. His ability to break guys down on the dribble and his improved defense are a difference maker.

Honestly - he should play before Trent.

Allen playing point with javin staring = low floor early exit in tournament.

With Trevon having the ball in hand and being allowed to create gives Bagley and Cater Jr more opportunities and opens up our offense.

Yes, please hit those free throws. That is a game changer.

As long as Duval plays with the basketball IQ he did in 2nd half we will be fine. Too often he does not. All props to him today though.

Duval played a hell of a game tonight. He made smart passes he knew when to penetrate he knew when to dump off and he was very active on defense. If he plays like that going forward he’ll be back in the starting lineup maybe even next game.

My only problem with Duval is his 3 point shooting and his free throw shooting. I don’t mind him taking maybe one or two 3 pointers per game but that’s it, as far as his free throw shooting, I cringe every time he goes to the free throw line and for that reason and that reason only I don’t like seeing the ball in his hands late in games when we know the other team will be fouling us to stop the clock.

I'm with ya....he wants to make them, he just doesn't. he just needs to be engaged enough to make sure he's not holding it at the wrong time. Point guard mentality

We still have a habit of attacking players and then trying to justify it after we come back. We win as a team we lose as a team and I want our most talented players on the court when it matters most. But we won so.....

And it will continue to happen. By Thursday people will have forgot about this game and demand Grayson’s benching when he starts 0-for-2 with a turnover.

His FTs bother me the most. I don’t like him shooting a lot of 3s, but it seems like he only hits them when we need it the most so I can live with it.

That was my frustration with Jason Williams, haha. Could nail an off balance 3 with a minute to go, but couldn't hit a damn FT.

And while he’s a 27% shooter from deep, it’s not like he’s taking an absurd amount of them, either. And I think I saw a stat where he was 34% in conference play. Still not good, mind you....but again, he’s not shooting them with any kind of volume.

But his free throws? Atrocious. They’re not even close.

The 3’s he takes that I want him to take he’s about 50% on since approximately conference play. The 3 he took tonight, open and in rhythm. And it’s not just Duval. If we had the urgency to find the best shot every possession we would be very tough. We don’t play with a sense of urgency enough

Duval has to be the point guard if we want to win the title. That's the only way it'll work. Grayson needs to spot-up and come off picks. Coach K needs to BURY that Delaurier, Bagley, and Carter lineup. It's awful
Yeah the 3 big lineup looks terrible offensively. Shouldn’t be the starting lineup. We need to start the game by trying to get our guys into some sort of offensive flow. From what I’ve seen out of our zone, we can pretty much plug in anybody on the defensive end and we’ll do ok defensively.

I will say that the 3 big lineup looks awesome on defense, but I’m with you Champ, it might need to be buried.

It’s his decision making that gets everyone bent out of shape. He has hit some big time 3’s, missing a shot is part of the game. If he would have thrown 2 no look passes up in the fifth row, we would have wanted him to never play again.

IF he keeps breaking down D’s like last night and limits his turnovers, we will not lose again.

I think with most guys, and definitely Duval, it's about matchups. UNC plays smaller this year and so they try to get out and pressure a lot more than other teams. This plays into Duval's skill set. Other games slag off and this means shoot the ball or run more motion style offense, which is not exactly his strong suit

“Bagley shrugged off any connection between Dakich's criticism and his second-half outburst, and the foundation for it appeared to be Krzyzewski's decision, down 35-25, to abandon any structure on offense, let Trevon Duval penetrate and set Bagley and Wendell Carter loose under the basket.”

And this is when we’re at our best. Just let them play for stretches and watch how relaxed and unstoppable they can be

Hasn’t he hit above 36 percent since about the end of January?

Trevon doesn't always make the right decisions, but he plays hard, takes his benchings without pouting, and even though he isn't a great 3 point shooter, by golly he has the balls to take...and make some big ones. And he hit a big one tonight. Excellent 2nd half by Trevon.

OFC
Exactly! That’s what I have found absolutely amazing about Trevon is he can’t buy a three unless it’s crunch time! He seems to come alive when Duke is in borderline desperation mode. Like last night his three sparked the energy for our guys to make the run and win the game! And yes when Trevon shot that three I was like damn it Trevon what are you doing and when it went in, I was like way to go Trevon!

Whenever he makes a 3 in the second half we will win the game. It's almost a done deal. It gets us going. Everybody starts to make shots or he takes over and starts to score/pass. He was shot ready on that pass so I knew he would hit it. Sometimes you just can tell

It’s gotta be Duval that gets us to the promised land. The benching and Grayson running the point for a time may have helped him and it got results for a time but I think deep down all of us knew that eventually and against better teams, it’s not the best option to win it all. I thought Grayson could do it if he really applied himself and gotten enough reps which he also got last year, that maybe he could be the guy but he just isn’t. In spots yes, but he’s not Sheyer.

Hopefully he improves his FT shooting also! He’s definitely going to need to make them now since we are at the win or go home stage now!

I believe he will do enough. He's not going to become a 90% shooter overnight but he might be around 70%. His strength of making the game easier for the big men is what's going to outweigh that. I doubt people do a Hack-a-Duval

Yea 70% is reasonable for Duval. Your exactly right, no way he becomes a 90% FT shooter overnight. Lol. And I hope no one would do the hack a Duval thing, but you never know though.

Smartest post in this thread. Teams that prevent penetration or pack the lane to make lobs and drop offs much harder, Duval is less of an asset.

No one sags more than Virginia and he got 8 assists. When you can handle the ball you can get to any point on the floor that you want. You can only sag so much if you put him in the pick and roll. If you give up too much space he'll go to the goal and the wings will have to come help off Grayson or Trent. Bagley and Carter usually clean the glass if he misses the layup

Duval remember got off to a great start. Then he hit this stretch where he seemed to get the bad rub of the game. some bad foul calls and some bad decisions on his part.

Again - You gotta give K a lot of credit for bringing the kid back.

But when that kid is in attack mode - its a thing of beauty. Thats where we need to keep him - in "Attack Mode"
