Funny thing about all this is that people hate Duke so much, they'll read ESPN's clickbait headline/subtitle and see the name "Duke" and it will confirm their bias (otherwise known as confirmation bias). Meanwhile, the "school" down the road got away scot-free with cheating for 18 years, are also mentioned in this article, but no one talks about that. It's even apparent in ESPN's subtitle for the article where Duke is mentioned first, even though it was a $106 meal. Was it outback or texas steakhouse? Anyway, the haters have designated so much space in their brain for hating Duke, that actually reading the facts is over-capacity for them.

To my understanding $100.00 or under is allowed for meals so unc is in the clear. What I want to know is who ordered the $6.00 appetizer? OFC

I wonder how big this will really get? If it really does impact a bunch of hall of fame coaches and half of the top 16 programs, will they really drop the hammer on everybody?

Can someone explain what exactly did Carter do that was a violation? I have seen posts about meeting a representative of an agent for lunch and then something about Carter's mother was at the lunch. Did this occur before he came to Duke or after? I assume the representative paid for the lunch.

It was his mom, not Carter. It was two years ago. The combined price of the meal was $106. So the benefit he received (through his mother) was $53.

Doesn’t seem like there’s much to worry about at the moment. Sorry if someone already posted this but I didn’t see it anywhere on here. Statement from Duke: "A Duke student-athlete was identified in a Yahoo! Sports report this morning about men’s college basketball. Duke immediately reviewed the matter and, based on the available information, determined there are no eligibility issues related to today’s report," Kevin White, vice president and director of athletics, said in a press release Friday afternoon. "Duke has already contacted the NCAA and will continue to work collaboratively with the NCAA and the Atlantic Coast Conference. Duke has an uncompromising commitment to compliance in athletics. That has not, and will not, change.”

You know it was her! You never go out to dinner that's paid for by a big shot and not order an appetizer! XD

What isn’t fair is Louisville gets hammered by all of this yet N.C. State, UK, Kansas, and UNC might come out of this unscathed just due to the fact there are so many schools involved.

Louisville made it too easy. Hookers and blow is just a very straightforward thing to rule on whereas UNC had a lot of technicalities.

In addition, UNC had two players in this report, one of which had a meal under 100 dollars at Carrabas during his senior year. The other wasn't even named in the expense report.

You have BAM and DSJ taking huge amounts of money like Bowen did at Louisville. That’s the inconsistencies I’m speaking of. The Bowen ordeal is the straw that broke the camels back and led to Pitino’s firing.

There will be more uncovered. Bowen got what 100K from Adidas and the school directly. Once the report on schools and other agents and shoe companies come out I think justice will be served

Yea but will justice be served? Think about it, the NCAA isn’t going to penalize any particular school because there are too many schools involved. I just hope that Carter’s meal is the only thing that Duke got caught up in.

What if you were the school that got the OAD. and the only school that had those OAD talents stay 3 and 4 years?

Seems like that would take a lot $extra$ to get those players to pass up the money in the NBA and to stay 3 extra years at college. I mean take more than the Wheels for Heels "benefits" that they had.

That is completely contrary to the ABCer's popular narrative that the reason potential OAD players stay at UNC more than one year is that Roy Williams destroys their draft marketability by either sitting them or misusing them.

Y'all gotta pick one or the the other or you look schizo.

^ Where in the world did you come from unctarheel1984 ? Is there no end to trolls like you. Just can't keep your nose where it doesn't belong. have no idea why posters like year aren't welcome here. You act as though you are posting over at thr. You just can't help it can you. it's your nature. OFC

Why does it bother you? Come out of that comfortable echo chamber and discuss matters even with people who disagree with you; heck, mostly with people who disagree with you. Its healthy to consider other points of view.

Well, that's just it. IF this is as widespread as some want us to believe there is no way the NCAA is going to vacate that many games/years/titles for that many schools, so the result will be some general whitewash that absolves all involved with wrist slaps and sets a new bar going forward. Nothing bad is going to happen to Duke.

I think it will come down to how bad the infraction was. 400.00, maybe nothing major. 40,000, maybe a big deal. I'm just guessing, but I don't think they will let EVERYONE walk. I think a few go down hard.

Huge development if true! Agreed, there's no way Miller isn't done if this is the case.

He's done. This isn't the only one either. A lot more to come.

Izzo's assistant was mentioned in another Forde article communicating with an agent to try to get Bowen to MSU in exchange for Gary Harris and Bridges signing with the agent.

Josh Jackson's mom also received 10K per month from UA and also money on top of that from adidas according to the Forde article

From the Yahoo article:
  • Dennis Smith, who would go on to play at North Carolina State in 2016-17, received $43,500 according to the documents. Another document headed “Pina,” for ASM agent Stephen Pina, says Smith received a total of $73,500 in loans, and includes notes about “options to recoup the money” when Smith did not sign with ASM.
  • A listing that refers to “BAM” for $12,000 is later identified in the documents as Edrice “Bam” Adebayo, who would go on to play at Kentucky in 2016-17. He did not sign with ASM. There’s a later reference to Adebayo that says he received $36,500. “Bad loan,” reads the document.
  • Markelle Fultz, who would go on to play at Washington and become the No. 1 pick in the 2017 draft, received $10,000 according to the documents. He did not sign with ASM.
Serious question: if you're already funneling money to a kid, so that kid is now ineligible, why wouldn't you have that kid sign with you as an agent to protect your investment? You're already dumb enough to document all of this and try to hide it, what's another piece of documentation that you're also going to try to hide? Seems silly to go through all of this and not take that extra step.

I am not naive enough to think these things don’t happen. Sadly in its current form the system is flawed to the point that it almost begs for corruption. This won’t go away until the system is fixed.

The part that boggles my mind is the degree to which parties involved documented their illegal activities. That’s a special kind of stupid.

Well there's documentation and wiretaps. I don't think anyone is saying at this point that these things don't happen.

Ok let’s keep it real. Everyone is doing this. I’m sure every big school has played an ineligible player. Coach may not know but it happens at every school. Think about it...Brian Bowen got $100k. How much do you think someone like Zion was offered? Now we know he didn’t turn down money to go to Duke for the Brotherhood. That’s just asinine. He got paid to go to Duke. Might not be from someone directly in the program but it doesn’t matter. If he got paid anything from anybody he’s ineligible. I’m just using him as an example. The good thing about all this is that everyone has this issue and they can’t vacate wins from everyone. Just like this agency did all of this, 20 other ones are doing the same thing across the country. Half of y’all didn’t think Duke had anything to do with this one and there we go. It’s very minor but that was just with this agency. I’m willing to bet anybody that we have a player on our roster that got paid big money before coming to Duke. That’s just the way things work. Let’s not get sensitive on the board
