I read that the last 11 minutes of the game we took 2 shots inside the 3 point line.

I believe it. When we had Bags, Carter and Bolden in the game together we just shot up a bunch of threes and it Felt like the ball never went inside. What the heck was the point of playing three bigs then?

I was harping during the game how we should be feeding Carter in the post with Maye trying to guard him. We feed the post the last minute we win by about 6. Jmo

they were getting open and working hard most of the first half. None in the second. UNC upped the ante with physical play in the Second and Duke didn’t answer the dinner bell. They played like formal guest in UNCs house. Easy and polite

How many assistant coaches are on the bench? I would think someone would realize what the team is doing
and have them go inside,

That stat is dumbfounding considering who we have in the post. Bags, Carter and Bolden in the game and we still were jacking threes.

there seems to be no ryhme or reason to how we direct any offensive set....hence it ends up being an athletic match up of some sort. It was very ugly in the second half and showed that if you pressure the guards the offense unravels

my only thought about was shoot the 3's and hopefully 1 of the 3 bigs would snag the rebound????

I don't really know how many assistant coaches we have on the bench but I think we may have at least 10-12 on this board. OFC
All 10-12 would of had us playing inside out...not outside in...so what does that say about the actual coaches on the bench?

The shot selection in the 2nd half is the key to the game in my opinion. I believe Duke had 31 points in the paint in the first half and then the 2nd half was the complete opposite.

Well I guess you will interviewing for the Duke job when it comes up in the future. Apparently you are more than qualified and you can fill out the rest of your staff from this board. From what I get from your above statement about the actual coaches on the bench which as of right now consist of Nate James, Nolan Smith, Jon Scheyer and Coach K perhaps their time is up and I assume you are an experienced and successful basketball coach you and staff will lead us again to another natty. This is correct. I don't mind Bagley/Carter shooting an open 3, but I HATE when it is in transition, Carter shot one in transition, it was the only one he missed. Duval took an AWFUL jumper, Gary took a few awful ones too. Grayson didn't really take any bad shots, but part of that seems to be due to the fact that he can't even create enough space to get an actual shot off.

when you have 15 less shots than an opponent its tough to win unless they shoot really poorly....Tarholes only shot 40% but just had way more possessions. Our defensive rebounded was poor. Coach K called the start of the second half awful...he's right about that. We just didnt react to their energy at the start of the half....and that killed the game 16-2 run and we played from behind after that.

Interesting quote from Coach K last night--

''At times this year when we haven't played well, we haven't executed what we've diagrammed and at the start of the second half we did not execute what we had diagrammed at halftime,'' Krzyzewski said. ''You get confused, because what you said you were going to do, you're not doing ... especially with younger guys.''

I'm sure it is just as frustrating for the staff as it is for the fans.

You forgot Capel...I guess by omitting him I’m to assume you don’t think much of his coaching....

It’s ok to say the staff isn’t doing a good job...it really is...

There probably isn’t a basketball staff on Planet Earth that wouldn’t have got the ball inside to our bigs....well...there was one...

You can get all riled up all you want...the stats..numbers...and tourney flameouts are what they are...and this staff is the constant...not the players....K isn’t adapting anymore...he wants them to adapt to his way of thinking...not what made him great...

Last few years I think Coach K takes a lot of blame in this teams losses. I’m trying to figure out what was the point of going to the zone in the second half and why in the hell did he play Bolden, Carter, and Bagley together. That made no sense at all

6'11, 6'10, 6'11, 6'10...and you don't punish the defense...that's a problem. A SIN.

Going forward I would love to see a Allen/Trent/Bagley/Carter/Bolden line up. Taking Duval out of the lineup will help tremendously. Let Duval be your 6th man or spark plug. Let the big guys beat the other team up, then throw in a run and gun line up of Allen/Trent/Duval/AOC/Bagley.

Yes you are correct in saying I left out Capel. Just left him out. So do you think Coach K should retire? OFC

Not even close..

But I want to see him do what made him great and adapt/coach...

I want to see something change defensively like he did with the 2010 team...run a 1/3/1..run a 3/2...pack Line...trap the pick and roll...etc...be innovative...

I want to see him hold guys accountable like when he benched the entire starting five at Kentucky...it’s unacceptable a team can go on a 16-2 run on us with the firepower we have down low....this isn’t your bombs away from 3 Duke team....get them the ball!!

Just as examples...i want to see him do things that made him the greatest...

Just reverse the rosters....seriously...

If Roy Williams was getting the players/classes that we where almost every year and didn’t win the ACC and got knocked out routinely on the first weekend of March Madness....would everyone not say he wasn’t doing a very good job coaching his talent?

We bring in the most talented players continually year in and year out....and we mostly have largely underachieved given said talent....is that not coaching?

P.S I knew you just left out Capel...was just having a little fun....

The simplicity of our defense is pretty amazing. When we play man, it's basically switching everything, no traps, no hard-core on ball pressure, nothing. Our zone is even more vanilla, it's basically "were gonna pack it in and pray you miss outside shots," it caught up to us last night.

I still go back to the MSU game, our zone was ACTIVE. We had arms flying everywhere, Trevon looked like an All-NBA defender, we created tons of turnovers which led to dunks/layups.

I don't know why we haven't tried a 1-3-1 either, we have the length and athleticism, those are the 2 biggest keys to an effective 1-3-1.

Last year's Duke team was never gonna be a great defense, Kennard and Grayson just can't cut it on perimeter D. This years team should be great, we have the ingredients, its just so frustrating.

I very much dislike anything colored UNC but I don't think us Duke fans are giving UNC any credit for what they accomplished in the second half last night. They practically outplayed us in every facet of the game in the 2nd half. I'm not a basketball coach and thus don't know squat but most of the credit for our poor play and for what we DIDN'T do last night was a testament to Roy and his team. They made the adjustments at halftime necessary to change our game plan in order to beat us. How they controlled the inside last night has me baffled still. Our players we simply beaten by very good play and great coaching from Ol Roy. However please GTHC, GTH.
