I would surprised if they can even stay within single digits. I don't see any scenario where we don't murder them in the paint and on the boards

Most years I wouldn't agree with this statement. However, this season is different. UNC doesn't have the frontcourt to compete with us and Maye is fools gold IMO. Roy is still playing his traditional big lineup and doesn't seem interested in playing small ball. I expect 1 of the 2 regular season games to get ugly and will be extremely surprised if they beat us. I know anything can happen in a rivalry game, but I just don't see it this year.

Most years I wouldn't MAKE that statement!!! But I think Bagley and Carter are going to be just way too much for them to stop. They haven't seen anything like them all year, and won't, outside of us

Bagley, Carter, Javin, and Bolden will create major issues for Maye and company. Maye will look like a fish out of water, like the MSU game and I expect Duke to go after Berry to really disrupt unc offensive attack. Things will get ugly I believe.

We're gonna lose multiple games before we play UNC most likely. But just like 2015, I think 4 is the magic number. If we lose 4 or less going into the NCAAT, then I am feeling really good. If we are 5 or more, I'll be concerned.

For UNC, losing their entire front line and the ACC POY, a 'weaker' schedule just benefits them more.

Perhaps, but I would submit it didnt prepare them for a game like MSU. Perhaps Maye and the rest of their front line continue to play well the rest of the year, and adjust to more physical and talented front lines. However their schedule early was not a benefit when they faced Sparty....JMO

I think it can depend on what kind of team you have as well. If you are loaded with talent, like we are, I am glad we played a grueling schedule to get these guys ready do ACC play, but if you don't have a lot of talent, playing a rough schedule and taking 2 or 3 beatings early might damage the teams confidence enough that they don't get it back until too much damage has been done, the problem is, schedules are made sometimes so far in advance, that you don't know what kind of team you are going to have when that schedule is played....all things being equal though, I would prefer the tougher schedule to let you see where you are and what you need to be working on.

I'm not sure why we are even entertaining going undefeated through February when Duke is giving up 50 points in a half to South Dakota. Until the defense shows up consistently I'm worried about almost every game. Fortunately it's almost impossible for teams to keep up with Dukes offense despite our less than stellar D.

That's my main point. We could easily have a couple losses right now, but we've learned more about this team because they've been tested multiple times. This team is incredibly sturdy, mentally. We've had past teams who wouldn't have been able to respond to that this early in the season. We've also had teams who've entered conference seasons with inflated records because the competition wasn't as stiff. That's likely, IMO, what UNC will be this season. There's a good chance they turn the new year in the top six to eight....I just don't think they're 'that' good. Good, yes....not that good.

I'm going to save my UNC bashing until after we beat their asses. If we drop a game to them, this thread will look mighty foolish. They play hard and can shoot pretty well. You never know. Our talent might get neutralized by "the zebras" or a Big Luke Maye 3-point barrage.

We have won a few games recently that we had no business winning vs them. In a rivalry this intense you can throw almost all common sense and logic out the window. We definitely have the talent edge that’s not a question. We have the edge inside as well for once. However it’s still Duke-UNC.

Don't be fooled by the numbers, Big Luke is putting up good numbers against mid-major type schools. Come conference play, those numbers will deflate. I watched the MSU-UNC game and Luke was terrible and was obviously not on the same level with MSU athletic bigs. Keep in mind our frontcourt out rebounded MSU without Bagley and was able to score in the post. UNC's interior is atrocious and Luke Maye can't stay in front of anyone who's halfway athletic. I will keep this simple, our frontcourt will destroy Luke Maye and unc's frontcourt this season.
He also struggled against the big from Stanford.Hate to say the same thing over and over but he will struggle against any big relatively athletic big man

I personally am not too confident yet with most any conference game. We are talented, yes, but very young. Until we have won each game, that particular one is the most important. We should all remember 16, and how we were dead in the water to the Holes. Like Denver said, we will all feel like jack a**es if they beat us.

That’s why I’m always guarded against UNC. On top of that, it seems as though we’ve won the games ‘that one team shouldn’t’ the last few times. The last time they beat us as an underdog was probably 2006....and I’d say they weren’t a heavy underdog in that game.

This year they will have to have a good shooting night or I just don’t see how they do it. I’m pretty confident we beat just about every team in the country trading two-point baskets.

Its true anything CAN and DOES usually happen in a rivalry, and I believe in guarded optimism generally. However if there was ever a year I think the Devils SHOULD sweep the holes its this year.

UNC does in fact shoot the 3 ball well, and has a number of weapons on the perimeter(particularly when Johnson is healthy). However w/our edge inside, and the tough schedule the Devils have ALREADY PLAYED, there's certainly reason enough to think Duke is quite capable of double digit wins. I think if Trent's outside shot is more consistent by then (and I think it will be) this is definitely the case. JMO...

One thing that I'm really concerned about playing unc anywhere is our best players getting in foul trouble especially our bigs not that they will be foul prone but it's just the way it is. OFC

Hopefully their bigs will be the ones getting in foul trouble MORE considering ours are more talented. However I know what you mean: Over there particularly its difficult to get a break. Wendell has had some problems w/foul trouble this year I believe. The great thing is the development of a guy like Jav for meaningful depth. OFC

That would be great. We're going to need a real heavy PTRF to pull that off. We need Show to dig real deep into his big pockets. The refs have gotten real greedy and most of them are unc fans anyway. Even dean smiths son is a referee now. We are at a big disadvantage. I can't be the delivery man anymore either. They know who I am, where I live and what I look like. We might have a double agent fan on this board because the only people that know about the PTRF are members of this board. To be honest with you guys I'm getting threats and I keep a .38 beside my recliner and while I'm sleeping it's by my bed. ;) OFC

Sky good thing you keep the pistol handy. I hear ol Roy is always considered armed and dangerous, AND considered A VERY FAST DRAW!

Actually considering Roy may be on the prowl for any of us and our PTRF, it reminds me of his lookalike, ol Deputy Dawg himself! Wonder if Dirt could come up w/something???

Unc has a brutal acc road schedule where all 9 games they can lose. They could play well in the acc and finish 12 and 6 at best
