Foot injuries.

Article from 2013: https://www.google.com/amp/dukerepo.../duke-basketball-foot-injuries-sfortosis/amp/

Add Amile, Javin, Tatum, Frank and more to this list. Have they checked the floor in Cameron?
It has been a serious issue that cannot be ignored that is for sure. Is it the workout program? It has to be something other than bad luck at this point. Either way let's hope they've made whatever changes are needed and put together a healthy season.

I can see Grayson breaking an ankle when he sticks his leg out to trip some one. :D OFC

Is it the shoes?

Is it the practices?

Why does this seem to be only unique to Duke players?

I think we just follow Duke more closely. It probably happens a lot of places.

In the last 10 years I can think of a multitude of UNC players who have had foot injuries, as well. Just recently there was Pinson and Meeks....going back I remember Bullock, Frasier, and Ginyard too. Those are just off the top of my head.

Foot injuries are quite common in basketball.

Oh yea, but it seems with Duke our key players have those injuries. No one would notice if it was a seldom used role player. I think that's why it seems unique to Duke.

It's also a perfect storm. Injuries to key players combined with K's lack of playing more players make it seem much worse than other teams.

My concern is youth in the tournament. And if we go out early we're really going to hear it from everyone. But I think we'll be fine. :)

I think it could be the workout regimen for them: when you put on that much muscle and weight that quickly in an offseason, and then proceed to put that increased load on your feet, it's just an increased risk for something like a stress fracture or any other type of foot/ankle injury. Just my thoughts. It's ultimately multifactorial though for sure

My only concern is we don't have the funds any longer to pay the refs. Sorry we are in the red with TPTRF. Nothing can be done. The refs are asking this year for $25,000 per game each this year in cash. We are gonna have to do it on our own. :( OFC

While generally I agree, Duke has a ton of kids every year walking around campus in walking boots. So even though they are playing having this as a "cautionary measure" is a bit alarming. There has to be a concerted effort on Dukes end to ensure that everything that can be done is being done. Again, whether it is the workout program, shoes (I don't buy this argument), amount of practice time etc, everything needs to be looked at closely to minimize this hindrance.

My gut tells me it's the workout program as well.

Maybe my memory is wrong but didn't they have knee injuries rather than foot problems.Think that. Pinson was the only one with a foot problem

We do run our guys a bunch in practice. Duke's campus has lots of uneven stone walkways and is spread out with limited parking. We are hard on feet. Get these guys some rickshaws. Work study students can pull them around.

Ty Lawson had a foot injury as well. It happens all over the country. The pounding these guys' feet take is insane. The foot thing isn't necessarily an institutional problem. These kids play so much more basketball all year than they did in the past even leading up to college. That's a huge factor here. Go back to the old Chuck Taylors. Dick Groat never had foot injuries.

Q I think you may be on to something there.

Heck no the cheating was every bit as prevalent in '09, so walking to class is not the alibi.....OFC

Maybe some year we can get good enough players that the Iron Dukes will no longer need to do this? Any big time recruits on our radar? Or is Roy getting them all?
